All Australia Sikh Students Federation Condemns Antisemitic Violence and Offers Prayers for Victims

Sydney, Australia — The All Australia Sikh Students Federation (AASSF) strongly condemns the abhorrent act of violence and terror committed against the Jewish community at Bondi Beach. This cowardly act has taken innocent lives and deeply wounded the conscience of our nation.

We mourn the loss of 16 innocent souls taken far too soon. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families, loved ones, and the wider Jewish community during this time of immense grief. May the memories of those lost be a blessing.

At a time of profound darkness, acts of bravery and humanity—such as those shown by Ahmed—serve as powerful reminders that courage, compassion, and selflessness still exist. Such actions reflect the very best of humanity and stand in defiance of hatred and violence.

As Sikhs, we are guided by the principle of Sarbat da Bhalla, which means the welfare and well-being of all humanity, without distinction. Standing against hatred, antisemitism, and violence is not optional for us; it is a moral and spiritual obligation.

In solidarity with the victims and their families, the All Australia Sikh Students Federation will observe 30 minutes of collective Simran today, praying for the departed souls, strength for those grieving, and peace and unity across our communities.

We call upon all Australians to stand together against hate in all its forms and to reaffirm our shared commitment to humanity, dignity, and peaceful coexistence.

🕯️ Rest in peace.

Reflection on Kabir Ji’s Teachings and the Sakhi of the Boy Offered for Sacrifice

Kabir Ji clearly declares that mere yogic practices or focusing on physical points of the body (like in traditional yog sadhana) do not break the veil of Maya (illusion). Only by deep love, yearning (vairaag), and remembrance (simran) of the Lord’s Name does the seeker pierce this veil and realize truth.

He warns that if one does not develop divine love or the pain of separation from the Lord, this worldly illusion cannot be removed—no matter how much one meditates mechanically.

Kabir Ji also emphasizes in his Shabad that the Name (Naam) of the Lord is the supreme support—greater than mother, father, family, wealth, friends, and even kingship. All worldly supports fail, except for the eternal refuge in the Lord's Name.

This deep spiritual principle is beautifully reflected in the sakhi you shared:

---

Sakhi: The Boy Offered for Sacrifice

A king desperate for a son is told by his priest to sacrifice a child so that his desire may be fulfilled. Searching for a victim, he finds a poor family willing to sell their son, as they believe him to be useless—only sitting quietly and chanting the Lord's Name.

The boy, deeply wounded by his parents’ betrayal and the cruelty of fate, accepts his fate but asks for one final act—a game.

He makes four sand piles:

1. The first he smashes, saying: "This is my faith in my parents. They sold me for a small price."

2. The second he crushes: "This is the public who watches me die but offers no help."

3. The third he breaks: "This is the king, who sacrifices an innocent for his selfish desires."

4. The fourth he leaves intact, weeping before it: "This is my Lord, the One True Support who never betrays."

Seeing his pure understanding and deep realization, the king is struck with awe and adopts the boy as his own son, making him the prince, realizing that such devotion and wisdom is rare and divine.

---

Spiritual Message

This sakhi perfectly illustrates Kabir Ji’s message:

All worldly supports are false and temporary. Parents, society, rulers—even the closest relations—will leave or fail you when you need them most.

Only the Lord’s Name is eternal, constant, and dependable.

The boy’s simple chanting of the Lord’s Name had brought him to this supreme wisdom, which even the king recognized as greater than earthly power.

The 10th Gate (Dasam Dwaar) Kabir Ji mentions in his Shabad is the doorway beyond the 9 physical senses—where the soul merges in divine consciousness. Only the Naam brings this transcendence, not external rituals or physical practices.

---

Practical Reflection for Life:

If you truly make the Lord's Name your only refuge—as Kabir Ji and this sakhi teach—then:

You will lose fear.

You will not cling to worldly hopes and attachments.

You will see betrayal, loss, suffering—but remain inwardly free.

Your mind will ascend beyond the nine doors to the tenth gate, into the realm of Truth.

Such is the path of the Saints—rare, difficult, but glorious.

Different Names of One Supreme Reality in Sikhism

The various names for God in Sikhism may stem from either the Indic traditions or the Islamic one.[12] Others are unique to the Sikh tradition, such as Waheguru, Akal Purakh, and Sarabloh. Employment of these terms does not mean Sikhs accept the religious context they are understood in their origina...

Hi Tony,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the similarities and differences between Sikhism and Christianity. While we respect all faiths, I'd like to clarify a few points:

Guru Granth Sahib Ji's Divine Form: Guru Granth Sahib Ji is the embodiment of the Divine Word. Guru Nanak, in his 10 divine forms, fulfilled God’s will on Earth. In his 10th form, Guru Gobind Singh Ji bestowed the honor upon Guru Granth Sahib Ji, declaring it as not just a scripture but the True Guru, a living embodiment of God, the King of Kings. This sacred text is far more than a doctrine; it holds the status of God Himself.

Guru and God: In Sikhism, Guru and God are one. Unlike the concept of the "Son of God" in Christianity, the Guru represents the divine Word itself. The Word is God, and that Word, in its divine form, came to Earth through Guru Nanak, who is one with that Word. There is no distinction between the Word and Guru Nanak.

Oneness of God: God in Sikhism is described as "Shabad" (the Divine Word). He is One, beyond time and space, omnipresent, and formless. He doesn’t die or leave; He is eternal. The Cosmic Sound "Omkaar" symbolizes this divine presence.

The Nature of God: Guru Nanak taught that God is self-illuminated and cannot be born of a mother's womb. God is beyond birth and death, and can only be reached through the grace of the Guru and by singing His praises.

Satnaam Waheguru: The name "Satnaam Waheguru" means "True Name" and "Wonderful Enlightener," and it carries the essence of truth. It is the key to understanding the divine presence within oneself, and it is through the Guru’s grace that one can truly connect with God.

Timelessness of God: Guru Nanak says that the Name of the Lord, saints, and the Lord Himself are eternal. They exist beyond time and space and live forever, absorbed in His divine name.

Guru Granth Sahib Ji's Status: Never think of Guru Granth Sahib Ji as just another doctrine. It is the ever-present body of Guru and God in this world of Maya, where fear, duality, and despair cloud people's judgment. Guru Granth Sahib Ji is the embodiment of divinity, and it is only through the teachings and grace of the Guru that one can find true enlightenment in this world.
