What an amazing day for the first-ever State Womenโs Minor Snooker Championships!
It was fantastic to see new players emerging, our beginners stepping up, and the standard continuing to improve.
The progress is really showing on the table, and I couldnโt be prouder of everyone who came along and gave it a crack.
The event was free entry, with players welcomed with gift bags generously sponsored by VBSA and Garage Gifts.
We had two groups of four, playing round-robin matches with a 45-minute time limit per frame. The group stages produced some incredibly close results, with the top four fighting it out right to the end.
The semi-finals were best of 3, with a 40-minute time limit per frame. Joey defeated Heidi Royle 2โ0, while the second semi between Lizzy Worland and Karen Winter was a nail biter, going all the way to the pink before Karen took it 2โ1.
The final followed the same format, with Joey winning 2โ0 and recording the highest break of the event with a 22.
Players received trophies, medals and a small amount of prize money, making it a great first event for our developing players.
We are already fully focused on making this event bigger and better next year. The plan is to hold it before our major events, with the winner receiving free entry into our snooker majors.
The winner will also be ineligible to compete in next yearโs Minor Championships, opening the door for someone new to take the title.
A huge thank you to VBSA and our awesome referees, Hampton RSL, the players that showed up, and to everyone who helped make the day such a success.
This is just the beginning for womenโs minor snooker, and we canโt wait to see where it goes. Now, we look forward to our September ranking events! See you all then.
