We're excited to announce the release of our latest report, summarising the enriching discussions and presentations from the "Ageing at the Centre" forum held on May 23-25, 2023, at Purple House. Supported by Tangentyere Council, the Commonwealth Department of Health, and National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Ageing and Aged Care Council (NATSIAACC), the forum featured workshops, cultural learning, and Yarn Up sessions.

Key workshops covered:

* Planning for finishing up: End of life and Advance Care Planning
* Dementia in the Community: What is it like and what can we do
* Workforce and capacity development

Participants from diverse organisations, including Aboriginal community-controlled aged care providers, not-for-profits, peak bodies, researchers, and geriatric professionals, attended. Themes included navigating intercultural dynamics, maximizing resources, and fostering innovation.

Grants to support research and practice in ageing

We are pleased to advise that the AAG Research Trust RM Gibson grant program is now open.

RM Gibson grants support a broad range of projects, including qualitative and quantitative research, small implementation and/or evaluation projects, dissemination of findings, stakeholder analysis and policy briefs. In this way, they are designed to:

· Facilitate early career learning and growth by providing seed funding for a standalone project, or a discrete piece of work within an existing project; and
· Help build a grant track record.

In 2024, the RM Gibson program is offering:

· Up to three grants of up to $10,000 (inc GST) each; and
· A possible additional grant of up to $10,000 (inc GST), for applications with a substantive dementia focus, through our partnership with the Dementia Australia Research Foundation (DARF).

For AAG members living in or visiting Melbourne on Fri 3 May 2024, you can't miss the AAG Vic Division's one-day conference: "Ageing Well: Self-care – mind and body".

The program includes presentations from leading researchers in the field of ageing and physical activity mindfulness, a lived experience panel discussion, and an interactive workshop on mindfulness, ageing and body-mapping. And, of course, opportunity to network with others with an interest in this important space.

The AAG Student and Early Career Group is a vibrant, engaged and supportive group. Led by a National Executive and Working Group Leads, the SECG provides a forum for newcomers to gerontology and associated fields to share their professional and personal experiences and achievements in ageing-related work or study.

We invite SECG members to submit an expression of interest for one of three working groups:

- National conference: Planning student and early career specific events for AAG national conference.

- Professional Development Events and webinars: Develop and deliver webinars and professional development opportunities for SECG members and the wider AAG community.

- Communications & Awards: Developing the social media and other communication strategies of the SECG and delivering the annual Helen Barrie Prize for SECG members.

Joining one of the SECG working groups is a great opportunity to gain experience in the workings of a national membership organisation, develop your skills and grow your network.
