no compassion for the houseless during a housing crisis? actual psychopath behaviour.

brisbane’s city council is going to evict people from parks across the city with only 24 hours notice and nowhere to go.

these are not the actions of a caring government, these are the actions of a wealthy elite who are annoyed about seeing the human impact of their decision to prioritise the profits of their friends over the needs of our communities. and instead of meaningfully addressing the housing crisis, they’re going to rain cruelty on some of the most vulnerable members of our community and sweep them out of sight.

we know real brisbanites care. if you want to do something about this, show up to our community meeting on sunday: https://facebook.com/events/s/where-are-they-meant-to-go-sna/1136223795181639/

How have huge and soaring rents affected you?

We are surveying Adelaide renters to show how our rental crisis – and the government’s lack of action – are affecting people across the community.

In every suburb, in every Federal Electorate, we know that expensive and rising rents are meaning that people are skipping meals, skipping medicines, and falling into debt.

Help us build our map of Adelaide;s rental crisis, by completing our quick survey!!

Anything you share with us will be treated as anonymous and kept confidential.

Image ID: In bright orange highlighter, bold text reads "What the f**k is this rental crisis." The text overlays a dark famous painting by Goya of the mythological Saturn eating his own son. The figure is visibly distressed. End ID.

Ben, a former Better Renting Renter Researcher, spoke to the SMH about the hidden costs of moving to what, at a glance, look like more affordable rental homes. When we only look at rent costs, "housing can appear affordable even though it can cost households in other ways, spanning location, transport costs, energy costs, home size and build quality."

A healthy housing system would allow renters to live the lives they want to live.

Today, our partner Antipoverty Centre has released a report revealing the extent of energy debt Australians are facing.

Too many households are drowning under soaring energy bills while providers rake in record profits. The stats speak for themselves:
- 125,741 households are on hardship plans — up 39.9% from last year.
- 98,000 households owe $173 million in energy debt.
But there’s a better way. Solar for all.

By investing in solar, we can ensure every Australian reaps the benefits of cheaper, cleaner energy — not just the privileged few.

4 million Australian households have already cut their power bills with rooftop solar, but many — especially renters, apartment dwellers, and low-income households — have missed out. It’s time to level the playing field. Let’s build an energy system that works for everyone.

How much longer will Governments allow this happen???

How much longer, till Governments finally decide to control rent rises?

How can no limits on the size of a rent rise be fair???
