We are growing koala habitat on Boonwurrung country! 🐨

At Mountain View in South Gippsland, Greenfleet has planted koala foods such as manna gum (Eucalyptus viminalis) and blue gum (Eucalyptus globulus). These will grow to support the local koala populations, known to live nearby at our Strzelecki Nature Link.

To attract native birds and insects we planted flowering trees, including several types of acacias and hazel pomaderris (Pomaderris aspera). These will provide food and homes for local wedge-tailed eagles, crimson rosellas, king parrots, olive whistlers, grey butcherbirds and tawny frogmouths. In total we have planted 22 different locally native species that will form habitat for wildlife living in the region.

This forest was planted in 2024 and 2025, and this video taken on a recent visit shows both plantings are looking healthy and growing well, with a diverse range of species seen across the site.

We are protecting habitat for this little cutie!

Gliders are found on the east coast of Australia. Their unique ability to glide comes from a stretchy membrane running from wrist to ankle, which catches air currents, allowing them to jump and glide gently from tree to tree.

These special marsupials need our help: habitat for sugar gliders, squirrel gliders and phascogales is disappearing, mostly due to land clearing. They use the hollows in established trees to breed, but these hollows can take up to 100 years to form, so protecting old growth forests is vital.

We are planting native forest that are legally protected for up to 100 years, to grow homes for these unique Australian mammals.

While these trees develop, we are trialling nest boxes at our forest in South Gippsland, which simulate hollows. Looks like this adorable glider has taken to its nest box nicely!

We are All In for National Reconciliation Week.

On this day in 1967, Australians voted in a referendum for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to be recognised in the Australian Constitution and included in the Census. While a lot has been achieved since, we still have more work to do towards reconciliation.

As Greenfleet restores native forests, we recognise that we are working on Country that has been cared for by Australia’s longest-standing land managers. Nurturing respectful and collaborative partnerships is integral to delivering authentic and lasting climate action.

Creating thriving habitat for wildlife at Wooden Hut. 🐦

Located on Waka Waka and Barunggam Country, Wooden Hut is growing to create habitat for wildlife, especially vulnerable and endangered species. By planting diverse locally native species, we’re supporting the restoration of a rich ecosystem teeming with life.

The vulnerable collared delma, a legless lizard, hunts in thick leaf litter. To help attract its prey, we’ve planted five species of acacias, encouraging moth populations like the wattle moth and northern brown house moth.

For the vulnerable glossy black-cockatoo, known for its striking orange-red tail feathers, we planted the black sheoak (Allocasuarina littoralis), an essential food source for these birds.

Endangered greater gliders roam the nearby Bunya Mountains National Park, relying on large tree hollows to breed. With 100 years of legal protection, this forest will grow to create these vital hollows, ensuring future homes for gliders and other hollow-dwelling species.🌳

This Australian bustard (pictured) was spotted roaming the forests on a recent visit. Ongoing monitoring by our Revegetation team is ensuring the forest continues to thrive and support local wildlife.

Superb Fairy-wrens are calling our forests home! 🐦

Superb Fairy-wren males are easy to identify with their bright blue and black plumage, while the females, like this one, are mostly brown. These tiny wrens can be found along the east coast of Australia. They feed on small insects found in low shrubs and ground cover, helping to regulate the number of insect populations.

Breeding pairs have been seen at our Wurneet Laang Laang forest, on Boonwurrung Country in South Gippsland. This native forest has been growing and delivering climate action since 2016. Greenfleet has planted low dense shrubs to provide wrens with suitable breeding habitats. Prickly Moses (Acacia verticillate) is a favoured shrub, with prickles providing protection from larger birds, possums and other predators.

If you live on the east coast, listen out for their trilling song and flash of black and blue livery!

Native species are thriving on Kabi Kabi Country at our Elanda Point project! 🌳

This forest was once cleared for grazing. Since 2003, Greenfleet has been planting, monitoring and protecting these trees near Noosa in Queensland, restoring the land back to native ecosystem. Elanda Point is providing habitat and food to native wildlife and removing carbon from the atmosphere.

The Coxen's fig parrot is an elusive, colourful and critically endangered bird which is native to the region. Supported by the habitat growing at Elanda Point, their populations will benefit from food and habitat trees planted. This includes species such as the small leafed fig (Ficus obliqua) and grey sheoak (Casuarina glauca), which will also provide habitat for the local wallabies, kangaroos and native birdlife.

These images were taken over 20 years apart, and the change is significant!

Can you see the change to this fledgling forest? 👀

Lyrebird Forest is located within the Strzelecki Ranges on Kurnai Country, near Leongatha in Victoria. Once cleared for grazing, the restoration of this 36-hectare property aims to deliver climate action and restore habitat for local wildlife.

First planted in 2022, this forest will grow to support endangered species like the greater glider, swift parrot, and gang-gang cockatoo.

There are also known populations of koalas on adjacent properties that will benefit from the eucalypt species planted by our Revegetation team. This includes manna gum (Eucalyptus viminalis) and blue gum (Eucalyptus globulus) which will enhance their habitat and food supply.

The forest growing at Lyrebird is legally protected for 100 years, allowing it to deliver lasting climate action and ecological advantages for our beloved native wildlife. 🐨

These recent images show the growth of the forest in just 12 months. You can earn more about our work at Lyrebird here: https://www.greenfleet.com.au/blogs/forest/lyrebird

Our Ivory Flat forest is growing to provide homes for endangered koalas. 🐨

This project is on Yuggera Country near Brisbane in Queensland, and forms part of Ivory Creek, a large-scale project of four properties spanning 259 hectares.

Here koalas are already living in the remnant vegetation. To support these endangered Australian icons, it is important that we restore this forest and ensure it is legally protected. We have planted their preferred foods and habitat trees; this includes forest red gum (Eucalyptus tereticornis).

This native forest will also grow to benefit local grey-headed flying-fox populations, a native bat that is endangered due to habitat loss. We have planted blossoming trees such as pink bloodwood (Corymbia intermedia) and creek apple (Angophora subvelutina) to provide for their diet of nectar and pollen. Endangered greater gliders may also return to the forest as it flourishes, as well as native birdlife.
