APHIA is a non-profit association of clinical and research professionals. Asia-Pacific Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics Association (APHIA) formerly known as ASEATTA endeavours:

- To promote, encourage and assist the study of Tissue Typing, Immunogen

etics and Transplantation Immunology.

- To provide quality control, standardisation and other support including research advise for Tissue Typing, Immunogenetics and Transplantation

- To educate the public and the medical profession as to the necessity for a coordinated approach to the provision of Tissue Typing, Immunogenetics and Transplantation Immunology facilities.

- To establish, encourage and contribute to scholarships, fellowships and travel grants for the purposes of promoting or encouraging any of the objects of the Association.

- To provide expert opinion to government and private organisations on matters relating to Tissue Typing, Immunogenetics, Transplantation Immunology and related areas.

We are pleased to announce the winners of the TxMiller Foundation Travel Awards each valued at AUD$2500.

These awards are designed to assist APHIA student and early career scientists in attending and engaging with the wider immunogenetics community. We thank the TxMiller Foundation for sponsoring the travel awards and supporting the next generation of scientists.

Dear APHIA Members,

We are pleased to announce that APHIA bursaries are now open to support member participation in the 19th International HLA and Immunogenetics Workshop (19th IHIWS) and the APHIA 2026 Meeting in Japan.

APHIA QAP Bursaries
APHIA Quality Assurance Program (QAP) bursaries will support eligible members with:

One economy return airfare
Travel insurance (if not covered by the recipient’s employer)
One meeting registration
Eligibility criteria:

Applicants must have been an APHIA member for at least one year and remain a current financial member.
Applicants must be working in a laboratory enrolled in all components of the APHIA Quality Assurance Program: crossmatching, antibody screening, and molecular HLA typing and the laboratory must have paid the 2026 participant fees before reimbursement.
APHIA Travel Bursaries
Up to eight APHIA Travel Bursaries, with four allocated to APHIA members from the Asia and Pacific regions, are available to support attendance at the 19th IHWS and APHIA 2026 meeting. The bursary covers meeting registrations, accommodation, and economy airfares to a maximum value of $4,500 AUD to both events.

To be eligible, applicants must:

Be a fully financial APHIA member (membership paid for 2026).
Have an oral or poster presentation at the APHIA meeting, or are participating or making a significant contribution to the 19th International HLA and Immunogenetics Workshop.
Provide a copy of their membership fee receipt.
Provide a summary of their contribution to a 19th IHIWS project (if applicable).
Provide a copy of the submitted abstract and acknowledgement of receipt from the organisers.
Provide a cover letter explaining why they are applying for the bursary and how it will benefit them and their organisation.
Successful applicants will be required to pay upfront for meeting registration, accommodation and airfares, and will be reimbursed (up to the bursary limit) after the 19th IHIWS and APHIA meeting upon submission of receipts to the APHIA secretary.

Please complete the APHIA Bursary Application Form and submit it with all supporting documentation by 1 March 2026 to the APHIA Secretary at [email protected].

We encourage all eligible members to apply and take advantage of this opportunity to contribute to and participate in this important international workshop and APHIA meeting.

The TxMiller Foundation is pleased to support the hashtag Conference in Namazu, Japan, Plaza Verde, through the provision of four 𝐓𝐱𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐫 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐥 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬, each valued at $2,500 AUD.

These awards are designed to assist APHIA student members and early career scientists (within five years of professional experience) in attending hashtag and engaging with the wider immunogenetics community.
