UMSU Welfare The Welfare Department of UMSU University of Melbourne Student Union Essentially, we cover everything at university that is outside education.

The Welfare Department of UMSU provides services and benefits to make campus life as inclusive and enjoyable as possible for all students at the University of Melbourne. We are responsible for connecting students, supporting students’ rights against discrimination and marginalisation, and promoting both physical and mental health awareness. Our main goals are to connect domestic and international students, promote both physical and mental health awareness, and support students’ rights at work and during everyday life. Our three focus points this year include:

1. Establishing better connections between domestic and international students.
2. Actively promoting both physical and mental health awareness to the student community.
3. Supporting and legitimising the rights of students at work and during everyday life. If you come across any issues, from work place bullying to campus discrimination, a good first step is to ask the Welfare department. We can direct you to a relevant service, and we're here to provide as much support as possible. Feel free to email us at [email protected] or pop by our office on Level 1, Union House. In collaboration with the University of Melbourne Medical Students’ Society, UMSU Welfare is bringing our free grocery service, Union Mart, to medical students who are conducting full-time, unpaid placements at the Northern Hospital🏥

Union Mart provides pantry staples and other everyday essential items to students at no cost, helping students navigate ongoing cost-of-living pressures. We are very excited to see this happening, and will continue to advocate for more student support across different campuses and placement sites moving forward🧡
