This winter, you’ll find Amara in the library at Uniting AgeWell’s Condare Court in Camberwell — reflecting, writing and thinking about her next book.

A former journalist and author, Amara brings a lifelong love of storytelling wherever she goes. While Melbourne’s cooler weather is a change from her former home in Sri Lanka, she’s found something just as special here — warmth in the people around her.

It’s not just about where you call home — it’s how it feels.

Last week we were proud to mark Reconciliation Week with a Morning Tea for Culture, hosted by our Walking Together Working Group - sharing stories of allyship and respect and catered by Jarrah catering, an Aboriginal owned business.

This year’s theme, “All In,” encourages each of us to consider how we can contribute to supporting our First Nations people with both big and small actions. Not just recognition and not just acknowledgement. We are proud to be on our own path through our own Reconciliation Action Plan.

But Rod was one of 22 Uniting AgeWell Preston Community residents showcasing their paintings at a recent exhibiting at the site. The works were sold to raise money for charitable causes.

“Over the years I’ve seen older people come in quite shy and reserved, and I’ve watched them blossom as they make friends and find themselves having fun.” 🌱 Centre Coordinator Alison Lay gets great joy in seeing the customers find happiness at the Andrew Kerr Care Day Centre.

She takes pride in finding exactly the right group for the right person. The five groups each week – one ladies'-only, one men's-only, two mixed groups and the Friday bus outings group are always open to new faces. 💛
