The Freedom Initiative

The Freedom Initiative The Freedom Initiative is a collective of people who believe in caring for the one and the many in our local community (Maroondah, Yarra Ranges and Knox).

The Freedom Initiative (TFI) is a Maroondah-based, not-for-profit entity that provides emergency relief to those in our local area facing hardship. Primarily, TFI provides quality and nutritious staple foods, fresh fruit, meat and hygiene products to people in need. But we’re more than a food bank. We want to see individuals and families free from the causes and impacts of financial hardship, relationship breakdown and loneliness. At the heart of TFI is a passion to connect and engage with people from all walks of life. Our friendly team members are here to be a support and listening ear in nay way we can. We create space for people to share their stories - leading to real and regular conversations - so we can bridge the gap of isolation through our community hub. This is all because we believe we're not made to do life alone. Everyone is valuable, everyone has a story and everyone is empowered to make positive changes in their lives when they’re connected to others. We’re The Freedom Initiative. We want to take a moment to acknowledge the amazing contribution of Bendigo Community Bank Ringwood East and Croydon through their community sponsorship grant.

Through their support, we have been able to provide food and petrol vouchers to members of the Maroondah community presenting with crisis who have required additional support in meeting the immediate needs of their households.

Throughout 2025, our Foodbank Program has continued to grow in impact, supporting more people across the Maroondah community facing food insecurity.

We’re incredibly grateful to the Community Development Team at Maroondah City Council for their vital funding support, which helps us respond to the rising needs in our region.
