📣 Wednesday, 19th August 2026 - Guest Speaker - Dr Chris Lee - How Botanists Assess Native Vegetation

Native vegetation plays a critical role in the health of our landscapes, but we need to be able to measure and protect its value. This talk will describe some of the tools and techniques botanists in Victoria use to assess native vegetation condition, and how these are used in native vegetation management.

Chat to us over a light supper after the presentation, but please bring your own cup.

💧🐀 🎥 Rakali seen in Valley Conservation Reserve and Scotchmans Creek!

Here are two videos captured by the incredible Ian Moodie, featuring Rakali (the native “Australian Water Rat”) in Scotchmans Creek and a waterway in Valley Conservation Reserve.

As seen in the videos, Rakali are excellent swimmers! These carnivorous rodents spend much of their time in rivers, lakes, estuaries, and wetlands, and their presence is a sign of clean, healthy waterways as they’re sensitive to pollution and habitat degradation.

Keep an eye out for them when you’re next along Scotchmans Creek or in Valley Conservation Reserve! 💚

Works to install a new gross pollutant trap in Valley Conservation Reserve will commence soon.

The new trap aims to reduce the amount of litter and sediment and improve the quality of water in the nearby waterways.

During this time, access to the reserve will not be available from Waimarie Drive, and pedestrian detours will be in place.

More information on the planned works can be found on City of Monash’s website.

We’re about to start work on installing a new gross pollutant trap in Mount Waverley’s Valley Conservation Reserve. The new trap will improve the health of the local wetlands.
