YHA Bushwalking Club Victoria

YHA Bushwalking Club Victoria Formed in 1939, we are YHA Australia‘s Victorian bushwalking activity group. Our social events are included on our walks program.

We are YHA Australia‘s Victorian bushwalking activity group and a Bushwalking Victoria Associate. If you enjoy bushwalking with a sociable group of like-minded people, we cater for everyone over the age of 18, no matter what your fitness level or interest in bushwalking. We provide an extensive program of day and weekend walks plus accommodated and multi-day pack carry walks. Our walks are guided

by experienced, volunteer leaders in a structured and enjoyable environment. You can view our Walks Program at https://yhabush.org.au/activities/current-walks-program

Locations include the occasional urban walk, but are mostly held in national parks and bush trails near Melbourne, in regional Victoria and further afield in Australia and New Zealand. Our monthly Club Night for members and visitors lets you meet and socialise with other members, experienced leaders, walkers and committee members, to learn more about hiking and exciting destinations. You can join as a visitor as many times as you like and pay a small fee per walk, plus car-pooling costs OR you sign up to become a member. Your membership covers the cost of your walks (except for car-pooling) and you will receive priority bookings on events, discounted fees for some social activities and voting rights at our Annual General Meeting. Our Southern Grampians pack carry last month turned out to be a reminder that some of the most memorable bushwalking experiences happen when conditions are less than perfect. A regular visitor to the Grampians, club member Jan Huang was pleasantly surprised by how much she enjoyed seeing the Grampians in a new light. Read about her experience on our website blog 👉https://yhabush.org.au/grampians-new-light-jun2026/

While one group was exploring the forests and coastline of south-west WA, another spent the King's Birthday Long Weekend discovering the beauty of Victoria's iconic Surf Coast.

Based in the picturesque seaside town of Lorne, the group enjoyed a wonderful mix of walks that showcased some of the region's highlights, from stunning waterfalls to rugged coastal trails, sweeping ocean views and beautiful beaches.

Today’s walk in Geelong had a great mix of history and riverside walking.

We started at the Fyansford Paper Mill with a guided tour through the old bluestone buildings, cottages, and water race. It’s a fascinating place, full of stories from the early days of paper-making (and more).

After lunch, we headed out on a 13.5km loop along the river, finishing up at Buckley Falls. A really nice day that tied together heritage and landscape in a simple, natural way.

Our WA adventure continued with a scenic walk from Honeymoon Pool to Wellington Dam, winding through towering jarrah forest and alongside the beautiful Collie River.

The day's highlight was Wellington Dam and Reflections — the world's largest dam mural. Painted by Australian artist Guido van Helten, the remarkable artwork transforms the dam wall into a stunning celebration of the region's people and history.

Another memorable day exploring the natural and cultural treasures of WA's South West.

Wilson’s Prom is often considered a rite of passage for those stepping into the world of pack carry hiking, and for good reason. With its mix of coastal wilderness, rugged terrain, and changeable weather, it offers both challenge and reward in equal measure. In April, YHA Bushwalker Steve Weekes took the plunge. Yesterday's walk on the Ellensbrook Coastal Loop via the Cape to Cape Track was a standout day of our WA Accommodated Adventure. The clouds may have threatened rain, but they only added to the splendour of this incredible coastline, creating a stunning backdrop for photos and unforgettable views.

Our WA accommodated adventure continued with a stunning day exploring the beautiful Blackwood River National Park.

Winding through towering jarrah and marri forest, the group enjoyed peaceful bush tracks and vibrant winter greenery, with the Blackwood River, Western Australia's longest continually flowing river, providing a spectacular backdrop.

The Busselton leg of the trip has showcased some of the region's finest walking country, and today's walk was another reminder of why Western Australia's forests and river landscapes are so special.

The King's Birthday long weekend delivered perfect conditions for our pack carry adventure across Mt Bogong. Seven YHA Bushwalkers set out from Mountain Creek Campground, climbing up The Staircase to the summit of Victoria's highest peak before settling in for the night at the iconic Cleve Cole Hut.

With blue skies and crisp alpine air, the group spent Sunday exploring further with a day hike out to West Peak, taking in the spectacular high-country scenery, before descending The Staircase on Monday to complete an unforgettable long weekend in the mountains.
