Great little local community dive project for those who can get down to Portsea, Naarm/Melbourne

🤿 UNDARIA WEEDING PROJECT 💦
10am Sunday 10th September - Portsea Pier lead by Morgan Kurrajong

Looking forward to seeing a big crew at Portsea Pier to help with some underwater weeding of the invasive marine kelp Undaria (Japanese Kelp or Wakame)

Undaria is quick to colonise areas and spreads rapidly. It competes with the native kelps within Port Phillip Bay, ultimately threatening the ecosystem.

Run under permit and guidance of ReefWatch - Victorian National Parks Association, this Undaria Underwater Weeding Project aims to encourage volunteer citizen scientists to ‘weed their local patch’ and assist in the removal of this invasive species. Data is cataloged into the VNPA project database.

If you are interested in getting below Portsea Pier and making a difference to the marine environment, please lend a helping hand to this awesome project.
