✨Today during Carers Week , we are reflecting on a wonderful workshop that we hosted earlier this year - Let’s Talk about the NDIS.

Thank you to Mike and Sarah from My Sunshine Specialist Disability Services http://myssds.com.au/ for an informative and practical session to support carers navigating the complexities of the NDIS.

The presentation looked at useful and practical tips to navigate the changing landscape and, at the time of the presentation, the proposed changes to the scheme.

Importantly Mike recognised the hidden cost of caring and the importance of including information about the impact of caring, on their circumstances as well.
He reflected that many carers are providing support equivalent to a full-time job while also managing work, finances, and family responsibilities.

Thank you to Mike and Sarah for an excellent workshop, and to everyone who attended, for openly sharing your challenges, wins, questions and stories.

This week is National Carers Week, and we would like to recognise, celebrate, and raise awareness of the many people in our community who are providing unpaid care for family members, friends and neighbours.

We acknowledge the difference it makes to the person you are caring for but that it can also come at a cost to your physical, emotional, family, and social wellbeing.

However you provide care for someone else, we encourage you to join in our monthly Pathways for Carers Walk and Free Carers Workshops at Mt Evelyn Community House and Reading Room. Please contact us on
9736 1177 for more information.

We would like to recognise Yarra Ranges Council and Community Bank Mt Evelyn for the wonderful partnership enabling the community programs for local carers.

On behalf of the Mt Evelyn Community House and Reading Room, thank you for all you do.

You are seen, you make a difference and you are appreciated!
