The Melbourne Esperanto Association promotes and teaches the easy to learn, international language Esperanto. We meet weekly, see meetup.com for details.

We teach, learn, study, practice and speak Esperanto in an informal setting and welcome new attendees, even if you don't know any Esperanto yet! A bit too hot in Europe? It's winter here in Australia... but people are still outside enjoying the city. Next year's World Esperanto Congress in Melbourne will happen during winter, but don't be afraid - as you can see, the weather isn't always grey!

Unu el niaj teamoj de aŭstralia piedpilkado estas la Kanguruoj de Norda Melburno. Ĉi tiu kolkulko estas unu el tiuj, kiujn ni disdonos al la unuaj 70 aliĝintoj al nia kongreso dum la kongreso en Graz. Se vi ŝatas kanguruojn, aliĝu frue por havi la ŝancon ricevi ĉi tiun koltukon!

One of our Australian Rules football teams is the Kangaroos from North Melbourne. This scarf is one of the ones we'll be giving out to the first 70 people to sign up to our congress during the congress in Graz. If you like kangaroos, sign up early to have the chance to receive this scarf!

Ni festas NAIDOC-semajnon! 🖤💛❤️

Ĉi tiu semajno (5-a ĝis 12-a de julio) estas Nacia NAIDOC-Semajno, kiam ni celebras kaj honoras la historion, kulturon kaj atingojn de la indiĝenaj popoloj de Aŭstralio.

Ni fiere pendigis ĉi tiun afiŝon en nia klubo - ĝi estis kreita de Zaachariaha Fielding, de la popolo Yankunytjatjara en la landoj APY en Sud-Aŭstralio. Ĝi reprezentas la sonojn de Paralpi, signifoplena loko kie homoj venas por celebri infanojn kaj lerni imiti la klan-emblemon (ĉi tie la maku - manĝebla insektlarvo).

Ni ĝojas, ke en 2027 NAIDOC-semajno okazos ĉirkaŭ la sama tempo kiel la Universala Kongreso de Esperanto, por ke vizitantoj povu sperti multajn indiĝenajn eventojn kaj celebrojn. La kongreso okazos sur la lando de la popolo Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung, kaj ni agnoskas la tradiciajn posedantojn de la lando, kaj esprimas nian respekton al la kulturaj gvidantoj, pasintaj kaj nunaj.

We’re celebrating NAIDOC week! 🖤💛❤️

This week (5–12 July) is National NAIDOC Week, when we celebrate and honour the history, culture and achievements of the First Peoples of Australia.

We've proudly put up this poster at the club. It was created by Zaachariaha Fielding, a Yankunytjatjara man from the APY Lands in South Australia. It depicts the sounds of Paralpi, a significant place where people come to celebrate children, and learn to mimic their Clan emblem (here it’s the maku - witchetty grub).

We're delighted that in 2027, NAIDOC Week will fall around the same time as the World Esperanto Congress in Melbourne, so visitors will be able to experience many Indigenous events and celebrations. The Congress will be held on the land of the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung people. We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land, and pay our respects to Elders past and present.

Ĉi tiu tre speciala koltuko de la aŭstralia piedpilka teamo St Kilda estas parto de la tradicia "Raŭndo de Kavaliro Doug Nicholls", kiu okazas ĉiun jaron por honori la kontribuon de indiĝenaj homoj al aŭstralia piedpilkado. Kavaliro Doug Nicholls estis pionira ludanto de la teamo Fitzroy kaj eksa gubernestro de Sud-Aŭstralio. Li estis la unua indiĝena aŭstraliano kiu iĝis kavaliro.

Dum la raŭndo ĉiu klubo portas specialan ludoĉemizon - en la jaro de ĉi tiu koltuko la dezajno estis kreita de Nathan Patterson, fiera Wagiman-viro kaj indiĝena artisto. En la sama jaro, St Kilda unuafoje adoptis sian Boon-Wurrung-nomon, Euro-Yroke.

Estu unu el la unuaj 70 aliĝintoj al la melburna UK dum la UK en Graz por havi ŝancon ricevi ĉi tiun belegan koltukon.

This very special St Kilda scarf is part of the traditional "Sir Doug Nicholls Round", which occurs every year to honour the contribution of indigenous people to Australian Rules Football. Sir Doug Nicholls was a pioneering player for Fitzroy and former governor of South Australia. He was the first indigenous Australian to be knighted.

During the round each club wears a special guernsey - in the year this scarf was released it was designed by Nathan Patterson, a proud Wagiman man and indigenous artist. In the same year, St Kilda adopted its Boon-Wurrung name, Euro-Yroke.

Unu el la plej belaj futbalaj koltukoj, kiujn ni ricevis kiam ni petis donacojn, estis ĉi tiu, kiu honoras GLAT-komunumon. Ĉiun jaron la AFL (la ĉefa ligo de aŭstralia piedpilkado) gastigas "Fieran Matĉon", kutime inter la teamoj Sydney kaj St Kilda. One of the most beautiful football scarves we received when we asked for donations was this one which honours the LGBTQIA+ community. Each year the AFL hosts a "Pride Match", usually between Sydney and St Kilda. When I asked for donations of AFL scarves I didn't imagine that we'd even receive handmade scarves! This kind-heartedly created and donated scarf can both warm you during the world congress in Melbourne in 2027 and show the Melburnians your new passionate support of the Adelaide Crows. Adelaide is in a neighbouring state, but followers of AFL from any region are welcome. Konstruita en 1888, la ponto Princes, kiu ligas la urbocentron de Melburno al la art-kvartalo, estis riparata kaj refarbata dum la lastaj du jaroj. Nun finita, ĝi preskaŭ brilas en la vintra suno.

La dua bildo montras la blazonon de la Urbo de Melburno. La devizo signifas "akirante forton dum antaŭeniro" kaj la blazono enhavas bildojn de niaj historiaj industrioj - ŝaffelo (lano), baleno (oleo), ŝipo (mara komerco), kaj bovo (sebo). Ili dividiĝas per la ruĝa kruco de Sankta Georgo, kiu montras nian tradician fidelecon al Granda Britio.

Built in 1888, the Princes Bridge, which links the Melbourne CBD to the arts district, has spent the last two years being repaired and repainted. Now finished, it just about glows in the winter sun.

The second picture shows Melbourne's coat of arms. The motto means "gathering strength while advancing" and the coat of arms has images that represent our historical industries - a sheep pelt (wool), a whale (oil), a ship (maritime trade), and a cow (tallow). They're divided by the red cross of Saint George, which shows our traditional loyalty to Great Britain.

You will be able to walk along this beautiful bridge yourself, if you visit Melbourne in 2027 to take part in the 112th World Esperanto Congress!
