This is the official response of Gawad Kalinga to the news about the case against Mr Tony Meloto, former Chairman and founder of Gawad Kalinga.

“In 2017, several male SEED scholars who were part of the Spartan program complained and claimed that Mr. Tony Meloto, physically violated them. The GK Board of Trustees conducted an internal investigation and subsequently Mr. Meloto resigned as Chairman of Gawad Kalinga, SEED Philippines, and Enchanted Farm on October 26, 2017. The Board proceeded to act on his disengagement from all his official functions with the mission, which included the public announcement in January 2018.
The Board acted discreetly upon the request of the complainants to protect their privacy and keep the matter from the public. With the help of professionals, including a crisis interventionist and therapists, we also initiated a series of actions to care for the complainants.

Walang Iwanan!

Further sa post ni Irene Imperial in Pinoys in Melbourne yesterday about the condition of EJ Delijero who was diagnosed with Viral Encephalitis, I just want to give an update for those who want to help. I have spoken to her husband Miguel Cortez Delijero.
Una sa lahat, sino kami? I represent GAWAD KALINGA AUSTRALIA. We are a charitable foundation registered with the Australian Charities and Not for Profit Commission (ACNC) dito sa Australia and we are one of the biggest Community Development Foundation in the Philippines na tumutulong sa mga mahihirap. In Australia, we help International Students who are experiencing severe financial hardship due to health reasons or those who are victims of family violence. Donations made to GK Australia and used for local projects are TAX DEDUCTIBLE. So, needless to say na we will be fundraising for EJ Lirio Delijero of which 100% of the funds will be given to her husband Miguel.
Ano ang condition ni EJ ngayon? She still remains at Monash Hospital and mahabang treatment and rehabilitation ang gagawin. Please google encephalytis to understand the severity of her situation. This means hindi sya makaka pasok and being an International Student, alam naman ng marami na ang school attendance is being reported to IMMI. Of course, si Miguel din hindi maka work dahil nagbabantay sa asawa who is critically ill right now.
So ano ang problema? They both have no families here and kung walang income, how will they survive? We are reaching out to the generous and kind hearts of our Kababayans and also in the spirit of Christmas, to give whatever amount is comfortable for them to give. Wala pong sapilitan ito. Sa mga tutulong, GK can give you a receipt. Please deposit your donations to: Gawad Kalinga Australia BSB # 083-004 Acct # 74 477 1799 Reference: EJ + your surname.
Meron din lang po kaming gusto rin iparating sa mga kinauukulan. We will not name them, but you know who you are. We are not in the business of naming and shaming.... just calling the attention of the parties concerned:
Si EJ Lirio Delijero works part time for a Filipino owned business. As a part time employee she is entitled to Superannuation. Meron sana tutulong to possibly claim the Insurance on her Super. Kaso hindi daw binabayaran ang Superannuation ng kanyang Filipino Employer according to husband Miguel. The owner of the business could be in this Chat group. Kilala nyo si EJ dahil empleyado ninyo sya, p**i update lang po yung Superannuation payments ASAP so she can claim on it.
2. Sa Education and Migration Consultant ni EJ. The responsibility of Education and Migration Consultants should not end sa pag grant ng Visa at pag dating nila sa Australia. We believe that, WE (kasama din kami sa Eduquer International) should have the Duty of Care to ensure that our International Students have the support they need in cases like these. Hindi man tumulong financially (but why not) they should assist the International Student to claim sa Health Insurance, speak to the school dahil matagal mag absent ang student and could be reported to IMMI. I have asked Miguel to contact EJ's Education and Migration Consultant to ask for help sa mga bagay na ito kasi we can't be doing it for them.
I have spoken to the Australian Employer of Miguel who works as a Chef at Pinegrove Hotel and the Boss has very generously said the company will donate and help. Ang saya lang na yung Australian Employer ni Miguel is very much willing to help. Sana lang yung Filipino Employer ni EJ maging patas din. Walang bashing please.... we are just calling their attention!
Finally, I have attached a couple of photos of EJ with the consent of her husband Miguel. He actually took the photos and supplied it solely for the purpose of this fundraising. We will raise funds until 31st of December 2024 and then will turn over 100% of the funds to Miguel. He has agreed to keep me updated on EJ's medical condition and I will share it here sa group for those who are interested to keep abreast with the news. Salamat din kay Irene Imperial for raising awareness at na bash pa sya for posting some personal information. God bless your heart Irene as we know your intention was makatulong.
So we now declare the GK FUNDRAISING FOR Delijero now open until 31st of December 2024. Kung may tanong please PM me or Atty Bernadette A. Cortes who is also one of the Directors of Gawad Kalinga Australia.
