Waste not, want not! ♻️

This World Environment Day, we wanted to shout about our environmental impact. In 2025, we diverted over 208,000 kgs of waste from landfill – that’s the equivalent of around 20 full garbage trucks!

These items were far too good for landfill. They’re quality, pre-loved essentials that have now been delivered to families to give them a second life.

We hate having a waitlist but, right now, 1091 babies and children are waiting on orders from Our Village. Together we can change that.

They're waiting for the essentials they need to be safe, warm and feel cared for.

Families are feeling the pressure of the cost-of-living crisis and many simply can't afford critical items like cots, prams, car seats, warm clothing and shoes.

This winter, children shouldn't have to go without.

💚 IMPACT UPDATE 💚

Thanks to your generosity in May we were able to help keep babies and children warm, safe and supported with the essentials they need.

Together, we supported 1,323 vulnerable Victorian babies and children and rehomed 4,712 essential items valued at more than $556,712.

Here’s what we gifted in May:
💚 49 cots and bassinets
💚 88 prams
💚 81 car seats
💚 981 clothing bundles
💚 625 book, craft and toy packs
💚 236 linen bundles
💚 323 shoe packs
💚 517 toiletry bags
💚 And so much more!

Our fabulous pram volunteer Brendan has a gorgeous 90 year old mum called Bev who has come in to volunteer a few times with Brendan and his wife Elena.

This week Bev sent in some super cute pram blankets with matching teddies that she has knitted. It’s a family affair!! 🥰

These will be heading out in cleaned and safety-checked pre-loved prams ready to keep some little ones safe and warm this winter.

Last year, we had the privilege of working alongside 339 incredible community organisations — supporting social workers and maternal & child health nurses to help families create safe, welcoming homes for their babies and children.

We asked case workers about the impact we’re making, and every single one said the items they receive from Our Village help reduce stress and anxiety for families, help parents feel cared for, and ease the pressure of paying for essentials.

That’s what a donated pram or a bundle of clothes can do. It’s not just practical support - it’s reassurance, dignity, and a reminder that someone cares.

It’s only possible because of this community. Oh, and some excellent car packing skills!

Debra, one of the social workers that works alongside Our Village, recently shared her experience working with Chloe*, a young expectant mum who’s excited about welcoming her first baby.

Last year, Chloe was not in a safe home and unable to pay the mortgage, they’ve been forced to sell their house .

With the baby due in just a few weeks, Debra could see that Chloe was not going to be able to provide everything her little one needed to thrive.

“Every pay cheque, she buys something for the baby like a packet of wipes or anything else she could afford. But they really haven't been able to get much prepared,” Debra says.

“I put an order in (to Our Village), and the beautiful quality of everything she received … a Bugaboo pram, bags of the most beautiful clothes all folded with care and love, a car seat and change mat … all these things she would never have been able to manage on her income.”

“She just stood there, looking at all these things and both she and her mum were crying. She told me she couldn’t even express how it felt to be able to welcome her baby into the world with such lovely things.”
