Today, representatives of the Rabbinical Council of Victoria met with Premier Ben Carroll and Leader of the Opposition Jess Wilson as part of our annual engagement with Victoria’s political leadership.
These meetings are an important part of the RCV’s responsibility to advocate for Victoria’s Jewish community and to maintain open and constructive relationships across the political spectrum.
We were particularly appreciative of the opportunity to convey directly the sentiment within our community, to raise the concerns and challenges our community is facing, and to speak candidly about the expectations we have of our political leaders at this important time.
We expressed our sincere appreciation to the Victorian Government for its ongoing support of the Rabbinical Council and the important work we undertake across the community.
We were also grateful for the Liberal Party’s generous commitment to support the work of the RCV should it form government, and particularly acknowledge David Southwick MP, Deputy Leader of the Opposition, for his ongoing support, engagement and advocacy for our community and the Rabbinical Council over many years. A big thank you to Evan Mulholland, Shadow Minister for Multicultural and Multifaith Affairs for his support of this commitment.
The wellbeing, security and future of Jewish life in Victoria should transcend party politics. We value the opportunity to engage respectfully and frankly with our state’s leaders, and we will continue to ensure that the concerns, needs and aspirations of our community are heard at the highest levels.
