Saya Anak Bangsa Malaysia in Australia We are a movement based in Melbourne, Australia who wish to see the spirit of One People,One Nation take root amongst a larger segment of Malaysian society

Saya Anak Bangsa Malaysia in Australia (SABMOZ) or loosely translated β€˜My race is Malaysian’ is a pro-people, culturally diverse movement based in Melbourne, Australia born out of the desire for everyday Malaysians, in Malaysia and abroad to engage in the discussion and advocate remedies to social, economic and political issues plaguing Malaysians. Interestingly, the concept of β€˜Bangsa Malaysia’ was the brainchild of the Barisan Nasional government under the stewardship of former Prime Minister, Tun Mahathir Mohamad to signal that Malaysians should first and foremost perceive themselves as β€˜Malaysians’ and refrain from ethnic, religious or regional bias. However the lack of clear supporting policies has not only stifled the attainment of integration but has led to further erosion of race relations. Our initiatives are premised on the belief that structured racial and religious segregation is aimed at maintaining political and economic power in the hands of the morally corrupt, resulting in the inevitable erosion of basic civil rights in the process. To this end we seek to advocate reform initiatives, support for the civil society in Malaysia and encourage discussions of issues plaguing Malaysians, both in Malaysia and abroad, whilst maintaining diversity in our views in advocating for the rule of law and civil liberties for all Malaysians. We strive to achieve this primarily through three streams – by engaging with Malaysians living abroad, collaborating with like-minded civil society organisations in Malaysia and lobbying Australian governments, trade unions and civil society organisations for their support on issues plaguing Malaysians

Please remember to register bit.ly/FFxGlobalBersihxSABMAus

We look forward to your participation!

Dear friends, it may have been a while since you have heard from us.

We are resetting our program, starting with our friends from an NGO in Malaysia, Family Frontiers hosting a webinar on a very important topic and one that will resonate with Malaysian mothers living overseas who have found it challenging to register their children for Malaysian citizenship.

This free webinar by Family Frontiers is part of their efforts to bring attention to the plight of Malaysian mothers with a foreign spouse whose children are unable to automatically gain Malaysian citizenship by birth, a right Malaysian fathers have enjoyed.

During this webinar, Family Frontiers will provide an overview of their work, the current status of related matters in the Malaysian courts and proposed amendments to related laws. Through this engagement, Malaysian mothers and children impacted by the current framework can network with Family Frontiers and further seek their support.

The webinar will be conducted in English through Zoom - link will be sent to registered participants. Register for free here bit.ly/FFxGlobalBersihxSABMAus

Further details within attachment. Looking forward to your participation. Please share this with anyone you know who may benefit from learning more.

πŸ‘‹ Are you flying back to Malaysia between 9-11 August 2023 ? Register as a volunteer to help deliver postal votes for the upcoming Malaysian State Elections. πŸ—³ Read below for details.

Dear Friends, as you may already be aware six states* in Malaysia are headed for State Elections on 12 August.

To assist those of you who have registered for postal voting for the state elections before the closing date**, similar to the exercise carried out to collect and send back postal votes during the Malaysian General Election last November, we, volunteers from Saya Anak Bangsa Malaysia in Australia
Malaysian Progressives in Australia - MPOZ and Masca Victoria in Melbourne will be collecting postal votes (dates and locations TBC) and sending back the votes through people flying back, who will then pass the votes on to volunteers from VoteMalaysia at KLIA who in turn will deliver the votes to the various end destinations domestically - essentially following the same process as the last General Election.

We will announce dates and locations for collection here in Melbourne soon.

In the meantime we appeal to you for your urgent attention and help with identifying people here who will be flying back to KL - specifically those arriving at KLIA between 9 and 11 August. If you or someone you know will be flying to KLIA during this time, and would like to assist with carrying back the postal votes to pass to volunteers who will be stationed at KLIA, please complete the form at the link below with details so we can get in touch with you for further discussion.

Expression of Interest form here - https://forms.gle/f6hq7G4vNePXtFB5A

Please also share this post with others to widen the reach and search for people flying back to KLIA during this time. Thank you.

*The six states are Kedah, Penang, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Kelantan and Terengganu

**The closing date for postal vote registration was 8 July. It is therefore too late to register now. If you had registered before this time, you should receive an email once your registration is processed, also you can check your registration status by logging back into the Election Commossion website (https://myspr.spr.gov.my/). If you have any further questions on this, please call the Election Commission on the phone number listed on their website.

*** Important message pertaining to PO Box delivery ***

PO Boxes are for delivered mail only

Please do not turn up to the South Melbourne post office and ask to drop your votes in person. The post office box is meant for people who mail their votes in through Australia Post (or another delivery service) only.

Please try one of our other physical venues instead - https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1nF9FXvvrAaI6VkXcmVH9XiKQhrTnU0Q&usp=sharing
We will be very happy to serve you there instead and help you with any enquiries!

Australia Post has been instructed to turn people away as this contravenes the terms and conditions of our PO Box that we've agreed to with Australia Post. If this continues, this can be grounds for our PO Box to be revoked. This PO Box is an essential service for rural and regional Malaysians so we would like to keep the PO Box please πŸ™‚

If you have friends and family who are about to do this, inform them that this is not possible. Thank you!
