🎉 **What a fantastic night of competition at Berwick Toastmasters!**

Last night we held the first of our two Club Contest nights, featuring the **Humorous Speech Contest** and the **Evaluation Contest**. It was an enjoyable evening filled with laughter, thoughtful evaluations, and a high standard of competition.

A big thank you to **Ansuman Roy** for organising the evening, **Sam**, our test speaker for the Evaluation Contest, and everyone who took on an official role to ensure the contests ran smoothly. Special thanks to our Contest Chair **Jo Fisher**, Chief Judge **Mandy Vevers**, Timer **Suvarna Ranjeevnath Shenoy**, Ballot Counter **Krishna Kamath**, and Sergeant at Arms **Lalith Liyanage** for helping make the evening such a success.

🎉 Congratulations to John on receiving his Toastmasters Triple Crown Award!

The Triple Crown recognises members who complete three or more Pathways levels in a calendar year. Pathways is Toastmasters' education program in which members develop communication and leadership skills through a series of practical projects.

John has gone above and beyond, completing five Pathways levels across both Lynbrook and Berwick Toastmasters clubs.

A fantastic achievement. Well done, John! 👏

What happens when evaluations come before the speeches?
That was the challenge at Tuesday's Toastmasters meeting as we turned our regular meeting on its head with a Reverse Meeting.
Evaluators shared what they would be looking for before the speeches were delivered, giving speakers the opportunity to weave those elements into their presentations. It was a fun, engaging and thought-provoking way to learn, reminding us that there is always another way to develop our communication skills.
One speech that particularly stood out was Veenu's presentation, inspired by David Marquet's book Turn the Ship Around!
She challenged us to think differently about leadership by asking:
What if the role of a leader wasn't to create followers, but to create more leaders?
Drawing on Marquet's ideas, she explored three key elements of effective leadership:
- Control
- Competence
- Clarity
It was a timely reminder that leadership isn't about having all the answers. It's about creating an environment where others can think, contribute and grow.
That's one of the things to enjoy about Toastmasters. Every meeting offers the opportunity to develop not only our communication skills but also our leadership skills.
