Hi all. Here's another great event from the Monash Linguistics Society:

Research Seminar: Aboriginal Languages
24th of April at 12:30 pm; LTB 2.04

We are excited for our upcoming Research Seminar event on Aboriginal languages, featuring Dr Jill Vaughan, Senior Lecturer in Linguistics at Monash University. Dr Vaughan’s work sits at the intersection of critical sociolinguistics, language rights, and minoritised multilingualisms, and her research with Indigenous Australian communities in Arnhem Land brings together linguistic scholarship and meaningful community language support. Her work includes documentation of Burarra, as well as collaborative projects centred on several other local languages.

This seminar will be a wonderful opportunity to hear about important current research in the field, including the ways linguistics can contribute to language documentation, advocacy, and support for Indigenous communities. It promises to be an engaging and meaningful event, and we would love to see many of you there.

Join us for our OGM (Ordinary General Meeting) on 17 April at 12:30 pm in LTB 2.04.

Our OGM will be more than just a formal meeting. It will be a lovely chance for our Linguistics family to come together, reconnect, enjoy some good conversation over pizza, and spend time in each other’s company.

There will also be an opportunity to nominate for a committee role, with several positions opening up, so this is a wonderful chance to get more involved in the society and contribute to our community.

The fun will not stop there, as we will also have games afterwards.
