To celebrate , our Sustainable Healthcare team hosted a one-off event on Wednesday, bringing together the Pacific Region Food Community of Practice and the Pacific Region Waste Community of Practice. The event showcased inspiring work from GGHH members in food procurement, food circularity, and food waste reduction. Hosted by our community collaborators, Zona and Francisca, the session connected members passionate about improving food systems in healthcare, sharing advice and helping to build practical capacity across the sector.

Climate adaptation is essential to ensure our health system remains resilient to the impacts of climate change, so everyone can access care when they need it.

Strong clean air laws *which work* would be a major win for public health in Australia, says Professor Paul Kelly, former CMO and CAHA Board Director.

Air pollution is the second leading risk factor for non-communicable diseases after to***co, affecting virtually every organ in the body. The World Health Organization links 83% of air pollution deaths with chronic diseases, like stroke, lung cancer and heart disease.

CAHA is committed to taking ambitious action to protect the air we share. We already have the evidence, the community voices and the expertise. Now we need the resources to build a powerful national campaign for clean air laws that truly protect people’s health.

Calling all disaster resilience professionals and volunteers 🚨🌏

If you work or volunteer with a non-profit organisation involved in disaster resilience, we’d love your input for a Master’s dissertation at Curtin University being undertaken by our volunteer Policy Officer, Ben Brice.

Ben’s research aims to better understand the role and contribution of the non-profit sector in disaster resilience, and your insights would be greatly appreciated.

Please take a few minutes to complete the survey and share it with your colleagues and networks 👇

This is a survey to help understand the impact of not-for-profits on disaster resilience

Tools like this are critical to supporting a low-carbon, climate-resilient healthcare system that protects both people and planet.

Congrats to all who worked on making this resource possible!

🏥🚑 The health sector is already on the frontlines of the climate crisis, responding to growing health impacts worldwide - from heat stress to air pollution and climate-sensitive disease.

But it can also lead the way in driving low-carbon decision-making, supported by the new Lancet MedZero platform.

Launching today at the World Health Assembly in Geneva, the platform brings together decades of fragmented research into a single, accessible resource providing carbon analytics across pharmaceuticals, medical devices, diagnostics, and care pathways.

Better data can support better decisions, driving a healthier future for all.

It’s , and we want to take a moment to recognise and thank the incredible people who generously bring their expertise and capacity to CAHA through voluntary contributions.

From board directors, working group experts, youth council members to community collaborators, our volunteers bring their energy, expertise and care to the shared vision of a healthy, regenerative and just world for all.

The health movement for climate action is only as strong as the people behind it, and our volunteers are at the heart of that strength. Thank you for everything you do. 💚

A joint win! Last September, Doctors for the Environment Australia, Healthy Futures and CAHA joined up with Market Forces to call for HESTA Super Fund to stop investing in fossil fuel companies.

We’re happy to share that in April, HESTA took a public stance against Woodside’s oil and gas growth strategy. While HESTA needs to do a lot more, it's definitely a step forward!

If you are a HESTA member, this is a great opportunity to reach out to the fund, acknowledge this position, and encourage the fund to go further in divesting from all fossil fuel companies.

CAHA and 80+ organisations stand behind the Climate Safety Plan, an ambitious set of asks to promote adaptation and climate resilience in Australia. The plan proposed two reforms, including a 25% gas export levy, to fund the plan.

We are disappointed that this levy wasn’t implemented by the government in this year’s budget, but we will continue to call for it.

If you haven't read the Climate Safety Plan yet you can check it out here:

CAHA CEO Michelle Isles is in Canberra ahead of this year’s Budget 👇

CAHA is calling for genuine full funding of the National Health and Climate Strategy, investment in climate-health education for our workforce and the expansion of Australia’s largest sustainable healthcare network, Global Green & Healthy Hospitals Pacific.

These initiatives could all be funded with a 25% levy on gas exports. Australians will continue to demand that multinational companies pay more to fund our critical services and infrastructure.
