Mau Rākau - Term 1 Intake Now Open!

Curious about Mau Rākau?

Feeling the pull to move, learn, reconnect, or try something completely new?
Or… been sitting on the fence for a while, and now feeling brave enough to finally give it a go?

Our 10-week Mau Rākau program offers a first glimpse into Level 1 / Poutahi, providing a welcoming entry point with the right amount of challenge as you begin your journey.

Open to ages 11+, this program brings together people from all walks of life. No prior experience is needed, just a willingness to show up, learn, and give it a go.

Over the 10 weeks, you can expect to:
⚔️ Build strength, coordination, and fitness
⚔️ Explore identity, discipline, and connection
⚔️ Learn through Tikanga Māori, Te Reo Māori, ⚔️ Mātauranga Māori, Atua Māori and Te Taiao (our natural environment)

Explore Mau Rākau as a pathway to channel, challenge, and change - for the betterment of ourselves, our whānau, and future generations.

This is the 1st of only 2 intakes for the year, so whether you’re here just to give it a crack or all the way deep and meaningful find your inner self type vibes - You are welcome.

On October 11th, TAH will be holding a fundraiser night called "Fight or Flight".

🔥 WHAT IS IT??
It is an opportunity for TAH to share the learnings of traditional Māori weaponry.
It is an opportunity to open our doors to our whare to the community to share, celebrate and connect.
It is an event that will help our whare fundraise for grading and future expansion.

“FIGHT OR FLIGHT” coming to you live

“Te Ara Hononga” warmly invites our community to come and spend the night with us on Saturday October 11th at the South Eastern Entertainment Centre from 4pm onwards.

For over 10 years “Te Ara Hononga” has been dedicated to teaching and preserving the art of traditional māori weaponry here in Naarm. This special evening will be a celebration of our journey so far; showcasing the skill, commitment and discipline of Mau Rākau through demonstrations, performances and storytelling.


By purhcasing a ticket, you are not only securing your spot at this one time event- you are directly supporting the continuation of Māori cultural education.

LAST INTAKE FOR THE YEAR STARTS MAY 5 & 10!

Thanks so much to those who have already registered! We’re sending the official flyer a bit late due to some busy times in our whare but it’s never too late! If it’s feeling a bit rushy, all good! We’ll help you along!

Our term 1 intake was a pumping start to the year! So many beautiful new people who have joined our whānau, daring to grow, to dream, to fight, to connect, to heal and the list goes on.

This year we are only running two intakes as we shift into some big events for our whare in the second half of the year. Our next intake after this will be in 2026.
