WomenCAN Australia

WomenCAN Australia WomenCAN Australia provides women with free training, employment, and a wonderful program of peer support.

 WomenCAN Australia is surging.

WomenCAN Australia was set up in 2019 to help women get skills and jobs, often having been out of the paid workforce for years providing care to others. We do this while providing confidence, connections, and peer support through The Placement Circle, in which women walk side-by-side on their path to financial independence. The genesis of WomenCAN Australia is ingrained unfairness. The barriers of

bias and discrimination against women compelled Mikaela Stafrace to set up the organisation after she realised her successful corporate law career had left her needing a fuller sense of purpose. So she quit her job and started helping other women get jobs. Women, often facing difficult circumstances, get free training and guaranteed work. They ‘earn and learn’ at the same time. Employers get dedicated, reliable, skilled staff. Women needing trades work done get quality, affordable trades work done through our social enterprise. And the economy and communities get stronger. The organisation focusses on aged care, childcare, transport, and trades for the moment. But its close connection to communities means it picks up on what’s happening in the labour market early, and so is well-placed to help Australia’s women help fix Australia’s skills shortage. We have tax-deductible charitable status and are registered with the Australian Charities Not-for-profit Commission, the Australian Taxation Office and Social Traders.

Changing careers can be challenging, but Talia wanted more meaning, more connection, more purpose.

With support from WomenCAN Australia, she stepped into an aged care traineeship, built new skills, and found a career she truly loves. Today, she’s supporting others as an In-Home Support Coordinator—making a difference every day.

✨ “I couldn’t recommend a traineeship more… it’s been such a fantastic way to change careers.”

Right now, there are many more women just like Talia - ready to say yes to new education and employment fields, but not sure how to take the first step.

At a recent Team Day in Melbourne, we had the pleasure of visiting the incredible Purpose Precinct at Queen Victoria Market.

The Purpose Precinct sells a range of unique products from social enterprises across the country that are creating employment and training opportunities for people who need them, and promoting ethical, sustainable products and reducing waste.

Led by our friends at STREAT, they also operate a café on-site, serving delicious coffee and providing valuable training and work experience for young people.

We loved learning about the impact of these social enterprises and left with both goodies and inspiration.

Good news is you can also shop online: https://purposeprecinct.org/

Emily didn’t need more motivation - she needed support.

For more than ten years, transport and confidence stood between her and work. With the right help through WomenCAN Australia’s Driving to Employment program, those barriers were removed.

Emily gained her licence, secured a full‑time traineeship and is on the road to independence.

Right now, there are many more women just like Emily - ready to say yes to education and employment, but held back by lack of transport and access to practical support.

🚗 Driving change starts with access 💜

Our CEO Heather Saunders was recently given the opportunity to reflect on the legacy of trailblazer Margaret Greenslade - one of SA’s first female driving instructors creating safe learning spaces for women back in the 1960s.

Today, many women still struggle to find a female instructor and gaining a licence remains a key barrier to employment.

At WomenCAN Australia, our Driving to Employment program helps women from culturally diverse backgrounds get licensed, build confidence, and access work.

Want to help us keep breaking barriers? Become a mentor driver! Because a licence can change everything. 💪

One of South Australia's first female licensed driving instructors has been remembered for her tireless advocacy and devotion to her community.

Simone was ready for something new — but stepping into the unknown was daunting.

Like many women, she was up against barriers that stop too many before they begin. Then she found WomenCAN Australia.

Through an 'earn & learn' traineeship, Simone built new skills, financial stability, and something harder to measure but just as important: confidence.

"I'm a lot more confident now. Knowing I can do this — that's been huge."

Right now, other women are ready to say yes to training and work. What's standing in the way isn't ambition — it's the practical stuff. The cost of a licence. A mentor who's walked the path before. Women alongside her doing the same. A clear route into meaningful work.

Every woman deserves someone in her corner.

Across our community, women are ready — ready to learn, to build new networks, to step into work that means something, pays the bills, builds the future she wants.

What's standing in the way is rarely ambition. It's the practical stuff: the cost of a licence, a mentor who's walked the path before, women alongside her doing the same, a clear route into meaningful training and industry connections to employment.

This EOFY, your gift removes those barriers.

You help fund access to the training, the mentors, and the connections that turn "I want to" into "I did." A first qualification. A new role. A future she's built herself — with others walking beside her.

When you stand in her corner, she joins a circle of women doing the same. No one walks it alone.
