Most people have questions before they decide.

About experience.
About travelling alone.
About whether they’ll know enough.

Those questions usually aren’t signs you shouldn’t do it.
They’re part of making a thoughtful decision.

Many people arrive without knowing anyone.
They usually leave with a much better understanding of themselves and the people around them. 🫶

👀How To Know If Conservation Travel Might Suit You.

Many people assume they need experience before joining a conservation program.
More often, the qualities that matter are curiosity, patience, and a willingness to learn.

THANK YOY MAY VOLUNTEERS 💟
Hey guys! I hope you’ve all settled back into your home lives or enjoying your travels ☺️
This was your impact in May.

Turtles 🐢:
You guys found heaps of turtles last month which is amazing for our long term monitoring of these populations. It allows us to track the residents of the area, determine any new arrivals to the area, track life history/growth over time and follow any injuries and changes to body condition 😁
Site 1 you guys found:
T-007 Corinne - long-term resident
T-015 Kookie - long-term resident
T-017 Buddy - long-term resident who lives specifically around the jetty
T-019 Fabi - long-term resident
T-038
T-058 Donatello - long-term resident near white rock
T-076 Tripod - turtle with only 3 flippers! They’ve been around for a while and don’t show any issues with overall health and fitness
T-112 Niki
T-113 Mini Mich
T-116 Big Mike
T-127 Scotchie
T-137 Lil Unc
T-140 Squirtle - new turtle to the area!!

Site 2:
T-064 Pistachio - long-term resident
T-071 Miska - long-term resident
T-083 Pac-Man - long-term resident with barnacle growth changes. When first discovered they had none, last year had 2 and this year only 1!
T-085 Turtlini
T-088 Lamington
T-090 Peeky
T-103 Mario
T-108 Timtam
T-109
T-123 Scuba Doo
T-130 Izzy

Fish ID and reef health 🐠:
Your surveys for this directly went into the production of the reef health report submitted by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority and contributes to their long-term conservation monitoring of the reef.

Coral Surveys🪸:
You guys surveyed 901 corals over the month. Of these corals the majority had an average health score of 3-4, which is an indication of a healthy reef! This tells
us our reefs are doing well after the summer and are showing some
resilience.

If you want to make your own impact, come volunteer with us 🤩

Latest Reef Update from Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority
June is the start of exciting animal migration on the GBR!
Thanks to all the O2E volunteers who have contributed to the data with hours and hours of time surveying in the water.

A little selfie reel for the humans who turn up with open hearts, curious minds and a willingness to help — plus the wild neighbours who occasionally steal the spotlight.
