Meet the people working in the Australian HPV Reference Laboratory at ACPCC.
Their work focuses on the quality, reliability and performance of HPV testing — from evaluating and validating HPV assays to supporting quality assurance and laboratory practice. The team provides specialist advice, training and technical support that helps laboratories and screening programs maintain confidence in HPV‑based approaches.
Much of this work happens quietly, but it underpins HPV testing systems in Australia and across the Indo‑Pacific — supporting the global effort to eliminate cervical cancer.

We were thrilled to be a sponsor at the Australian Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology Updates Course over the weekend. Members of our Clinical Education and Laboratory Teams staffed a resource booth which had lots of great engagement with colposcopists from Australia and New Zealand. The course also provided an opportunity to catch-up with the nurses going through our Victorian Department of Health funded colposcopy training program, in addition to a nurse colposcopist trainee colleague from Sydney!

HPV vaccination is cancer prevention.
The HPV vaccine protects against virus types responsible for over 85% of cervical cancers, as well as other HPV‑related cancers.
Maintaining strong vaccination coverage is essential to protecting future generations and achieving cervical cancer elimination.

World Immunisation Week recognises the impact of vaccines in preventing serious disease.
HPV vaccination is central to cervical cancer prevention. Combined with regular cervical screening, it puts elimination within reach. ACPCC supports these efforts by strengthening screening pathways, workforce capability, and the systems that underpin participation and follow‑up.

We’re excited to announce a milestone for diagnostic pathology in Australia.
ACPCC (or VCS Pathology) has received NATA accreditation for the Genius Digital Diagnostics System, making us the first laboratory in Australia to be accredited for this technology.
The Genius is an FDA and TGA approved digital diagnostics system with an AI-developed algorithm that combines automated screening tools with advanced image analysis to support faster, more consistent, and higher quality reporting.
This accreditation marks an important step forward in digital cytology and signals a significant shift in how diagnostic services will be delivered in the years ahead.
