๐ SNAKE SEASON IS HERE! ๐
Yesterday, we saw our first patient who had been bitten by a snake! A timely reminder that snake season is well and truly upon us! ๐ถโค๏ธโ๐ฉน
With yesterday being warmer than usual, snakes are starting to come out of hiding, and with the days only getting warmer, we can expect to see more of them becoming active. ๐ก๏ธ๐
As pet owners, itโs important to stay vigilant, especially when your pets are outdoors, around long grass, gardens, bushland or other areas where snakes may be hiding.
โ ๏ธ If you suspect your pet has been bitten by a snake, seek veterinary attention IMMEDIATELY. Snake envenomation can be life-threatening and early treatment can make a significant difference.
Signs of snake envenomation can include:
๐พ Sudden weakness or collapse
๐พ Vomiting
๐พ Trembling or shaking
๐พ Dilated pupils
๐พ Difficulty breathing
๐พ Bleeding or unusual bruising
๐พ Paralysis
Donโt wait for symptoms to become severe, if you see your pet interact with a snake or suspect a snake bite, treat it as an emergency.
Stay safe, stay alert and keep your pets close this snake season! ๐๐พ
