n me and my son on an unforgettable trip to Cairns as we explore accessible accommodation, transport and activities together.
In this video, I share the real experience of travelling as a quadriplegic father—from transferring out of my wheelchair and boarding the plane to getting around Cairns and enjoying memorable adventures with my son.
Not every resort or accommodation is completely wheelchair accessible, but sometimes simple solutions can make a big difference. We used furniture risers—often called “elephant feet”—to raise the bed and a small portable ramp to access the balcony safely.
This journey shows that accessible travel may require extra planning, creativity and the right support, but having a disability should not prevent anyone from travelling, creating memories and experiencing new adventures with their family.
I hope this video helps other wheelchair users and families feel more confident about exploring Cairns and travelling throughout Australia.
♿ Accessible travel is possible—sometimes we just need to find a different way.
