Today is IDAHOBIT — the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Inters*xism and Transphobia. 🌈

A global moment to stand against discrimination and come together for equality!

Did you know:
• 65 UN member States still criminalise consensual same-s*x s*xual acts
• At least 62 restrict freedom of expression based on s*xual orientation, gender identity and expression, and s*x characteristics
• Legal gender recognition based on self-identification exists in just 18 countries
• Only 9 countries prohibit unnecessary medical interventions on inters*x children
• In Australia, it’s still legal to discriminate against LGBTQ+ people in religious schools and by faith-based service providers

Behind every statistic are people in our communities being denied safety, recognition and equality.

While our experiences may differ across the world, our hope is shared: to live freely, equally and without discrimination - and to be accepted for who we are.

Share this post. Show your solidarity. Stand with LGBTQIA+ communities everywhere.

The Melbourne Writers Festival at QVWC on 9 May was a vibrant celebration of feminist storytelling, creativity, and community. Bringing together writers, readers, and audiences from across Melbourne, the event sparked thoughtful conversations, inspired new ideas, and fostered meaningful connections.

Through a dynamic program of feminist sessions, the festival showcased the strength and diversity of Melbourne’s literary community. Sessions sold out almost immediately after tickets were released, and more than 300 people attended the QVWC throughout the day.

We hope this becomes a regular feature of the MWF program.
