Ride For Apeksha

Ride For Apeksha Fundraising campaign for Apeksha Hospital (Cancer Hospital) Maharagama, Sri Lanka The economic crisis has devastated people’s lives and livelihoods.

Sri Lanka is home to more than 22 million people and many of them are rapidly losing the ability to purchase everyday goods. Aside from long lines for fuel, cooking gas, and kerosene oil, there are major shortages of essential goods. Sri Lanka’s financial crisis, its worst since independence, is swiftly becoming an alarming health crisis. Country imports more than 80% of its medical supplies. Now

almost 400 medical items are in shortage. Cancer drugs, which are notoriously expensive to import, have been particularly badly hit by shortages.

“Ride for Apeksha” is an appeal to raise funds to purchase medical supplies urgently required by the Apeksha Cancer Hospital in Colombo, Sri Lanka. “Apeksha” means “Hope” in Sinhalese. Cyclists can set their own target to ride up to 976 km, in 40 days from 1st of September to 10th of October. The number 976 represents the number of operating beds in the Apeksha Cancer Hospital currently.
