Thank you

As we close the doors on our physical space, we take a moment of quiet reflection and gratitude for everything we have achieved together.

Homb’s vision has been to inspire a movement, a tidal wave of support for new families. To change societal expectations, to see the value in self-care, and to recognise the monumental physical, psychological and emotional shift that defines Matrescence and hold space in such a profound way that instances of postnatal anxiety and depression cease to exist. I am hopeful that steps have been made in the right direction.

To every one who has supported us and every family who has been part of Homb — Thank you. You are part of a movement that is only just beginning.

With love and gratitude,
Larissa — Homb Founder and Director

Our vision for Homb has always been to inspire a movement. A tidal wave of support for mothers.

We had the privilege of collaborating with the wonderful Cassie Shortsleeve of to craft the script for our hero film. Together, we set out to capture the emotions and transformations of matrescence, and to share the heart of Homb’s vision for postpartum care.

These words still resonate deeply. We hope they serve as a gentle reminder that caring for yourself is the foundation of caring for your family. When you nourish and support yourself and learn to trust your intuition, you create space to be fully present, connected, and attuned not only to your baby’s needs, but also to your own.

Our hope is that this message encourages you to slow down, listen inwardly, and give yourself permission to receive what you need; saying yes to rest, care, nourishment, and compassion as you grow into this new chapter of parenthood.

As we prepared to record the final episode of No Place Like Homb (for now), we took a moment to pause, reflect, and celebrate everything that we have accomplished.

Homb has nurtured and cared for families, supported women through the profound transition of matrescence, and sparked meaningful conversations about how we can better care for mothers. We’d love that conversation to continue with your support, so that every parent can feel seen, heard and never alone.

Becoming a mother is one of the most profound transformations a person can experience, a continual process of bending, rebuilding and shifting. Every journey is unique, but one thing remains constant: the fundamental need for support and nourishment.

For too long, postpartum care has been seen as a luxury rather than an essential foundation for long-term mental health and well-being. Those early days of motherhood should be centred around restorative rest, intentional nourishment, and compassionate support.

Taking even small moments for yourself can ease the stress and overwhelm that naturally arise in new parenthood. As you move through this season of change, give yourself permission to prioritise your wellbeing and ask for help when you need it, because seeking support is an act of strength, not weakness.

To care for those who depend on us, we must first care for ourselves.

Studies show that up to 1 in 5 women and 1 in 10 men experience anxiety and/or depression during the perinatal period.

These rates have doubled over the past decade, and Australia is facing a growing mental health crisis, marked by the rising prevalence of perinatal mood disorders, significant economic costs, and major gaps in support services.

Homb has existed to be part of the change; to hold space with care and intention, ensuring no parent faces these challenges without knowing where to turn for help.

Thank you for being part of this movement; for joining the conversation, advocating, sharing, and helping raise awareness. It truly does take a village, and with this groundswell of collective support, we can make sure no family falls through the cracks.

Exposure to idealised maternal images and narratives online can increase feelings of shame, failure, and embarrassment among women who perceive themselves as falling short of these cultural expectations.

Social media platforms often present a narrow and perfectionistic view of motherhood, magnifying anxiety and depressive symptoms when mothers compare themselves to others.

At the same time, online forums can provide spaces where mothers address and challenge internalised stigmas, helping to normalise experiences and reduce feelings of isolation and inadequacy.

Let’s be part of the change!
