Kaya or ‘hello’, my name is Claire Trainor and I am privileged to be Community’s Indigenous Office Bearer Candidate for 2027 💃🖤💛❤️💃

I’m a proud Kalkadoon Kuungkari woman, who grew up on and has ties to Wadjuk Noongar land. I’m a first year student studying a BA with a double major in history and politics.

As a young Indigenous woman from regional Western Australia, I was lucky enough to grow up surrounded by Mob from all different countries and language groups. So I have seen first hand the beauty and diversity that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island culture has to share.
As your Office Bearer, I want to share these diverse perspectives and uplift our community within UMSU. I will champion both awareness and inclusion within broader student population, specifically advocating for the renaming of university buildings named after racist figures. Along with creating safe Indigenous only events and spaces - including reinstating magazine Gundui Bunjil and running an inter-university Blak Ball!

🖤💛❤️ I think it’s so important for the involvement of Indigenous peoples within politics, and I would be honoured to represent our incredible community.

🍲 Handed out 25,000 Frozen Meals after taking on the program from the University

👋 Hello and 你好, we are Jimmy (he/him) and Prish*ta (she/her), your Community candidates for Creative Arts this year! We study a Bachelor of Music and a Bachelor of Arts respectively. We believe everyone deserves a space to express and to create, whichever campus or degree you study.

🎭 Over our time at UniMelb, we have seen firsthand how tough it can be to find rehearsal spaces on campus, cultural performances and genuine opportunities to connect to like-minded peers of the arts.

💃 In 2026, Community has brought the Creative Arts department’s focus to making events welcoming to students from all corners of the University. We have been running Creative Arts events, such as Art Therapy, at Southbank for the first time, allowing Fine Arts students easy access to the department. We have also held cultural art workshops so that international and culturally diverse students can find art and express themselves, including through our current project, Tastings. We have also held regular collaborations with the Welfare department to fund events for student wellbeing, such as Art Therapy and Karaoke.

🎨 In 2027, we will continue the work of this department, pushing the limits of creativity and innovation across all campuses. We will run a MudFest unlike any Melbourne has seen before, and offer more opportunities for cultural art collaborations including performances and workshops. And we will keep fighting for easier room bookings and more rehearsal spaces, because every student group should be set up to succeed in their passions.

We are Aahna (she/her) and Clarissa (she/her), and we know what it’s like to try to stay afloat in a University system that seems to stack the odds so firmly against you.

We’ve been let down by the University’s inadequate support structures for disabled students, as well as a complete lack of recognition of Carers. We have personally suffered from the difficulties of getting support from CAPS, challenges with accessing AAPs. As OBs, we'll expand the Disabilities Department to formally support student Carers, ensuring those balancing university with Caring responsibilities have dedicated advocacy and a community centred around their needs.

We'll fight to make Academic Adjustment Plans (AAPs) more accessible throughout a student's degree, recognising that disabilities can arise or change at any time. Students should be able to access support when they need it, not only at the beginning of their studies. To strengthen advocacy across campus, we'll also introduce an accessibility reporting platform where students can raise the barriers they encounter at university.

Community is committed to making disability advocacy more responsive, representative and centred on the diverse experiences of students across our campus.

As your General Secretary candidate, I want to continue the work I have started as your 2026 UMSU Education (Academic) Office Bearer.

Building on the efforts of Community office bearers before me, I have overseen the rollout of document-free 3-day extensions across every faculty, as well as a host of other improvements to the special consideration and extension processes at UniMelb.
I have also pushed the University to allow students to have their preferred names printed onto their student cards, and got free replacement cards for gender diverse and First Nations students.

The role of General Secretary involves so much hard work and diligence to keep the Student Union functioning smoothly and serving every student. I hope to continue my work in UMSU and make sure the Union backs students, defends student rights, and has its priorities aligned with your priorities.

Hi everyone! My name is Daniel (he/him) and I am a third year Bachelor of Arts Student. In 2024 I moved to Melbourne from the regional town of Lara, spending my first year in student accommodation.The support services provided by UMSU were the reason I was able to get through my first year, whether it was UnionMart or the Advocacy and Legal Service. Since I got back on my feet, I have fiercely defended these important services and relentlessly advocated for greater support for students from the University Administration. I want to continue this fight, and build on the wins I have achieved over the last few years, that’s why I am so excited to be running to be your next UMSU President 💚 💚
