How did you find out about Sailing Lifts Your Spirits?
My colleague told me. She encouraged me to come along because she had such an amazing experience the last few times.

And was this your first time sailing?
As an adult, yes, it was my first time sailing. And you know, I just hadn’t had the opportunity to be out. Tonight I got on a glamous boat on the perfect summer’s evening. It just made me feel delighted and I felt like a rock star.
Just being out there sailing and looking at the views of the bay and Melbourne city..it was beautiful.
It was it was both a a feeling of release and freedom. It was exciting and I felt like a celebrity, and also getting to see our local community from a different perspective has been really an inspiration.

And we’ll be see you back?
Absolutely. I’m really excited. 
I’m sad. I can’t bring my husband because he’s not in in the services, but I’ll absolutely be back or I’ll be nagging at people I know that want to take me out now, because it’s addictive. The evening just flew by, I felt like we were out for ten minutes.
I really could have settled for several more hours.

And did you learn anything while you were out there?
I learned that you can do something after work that is relaxing. It’s made my Thursday night feel like a weekend. So I’ve had a midweek weekend. I feel like I will sleep better and I’m more relaxed and tomorrow, you know, a one day work week. It’s really exciting.. 
I can’t believe the generosity of the boat owners. To share their luxury yachts with us is just also really special to see that other people are kind enough to share what they have. Caroline ~ The Alfred, Sandringham

Sailing with Leanne, Gordon and the amazing volunteer team is such a liberating and feel good experience. To be taken away from the pressures of working in a demanding healthcare industry is the epitome of freedom.
Appreciation is key. I recommend this amazing experience with an amazing team of experts and caring individuals that can impact your mental health in the most positive light.

Hi Leanne & Gordon. Writing to let you know that after coming out with Sailing Lifts Your Spirits earlier this year I booked my husband and I on a trip to the Whitsundays and a 3 night sail on a catamaran around the islands.

It was amazing! We snorkelled deserted reefs, attempted stand up paddle boarding, saw whales and turtles, anchored off Whitehaven Beach, watched the sunset with a drink in hand, saw the stars away from the busy city lights, and played cards on the back deck with friends who had joined us. Our yacht was the ultimate freedom machine and we could go wherever we wanted, powered by the earth’s energy (it had solar panels too). Winds blowing strongly from the SE? No problem - we tucked into a protected cove on the other side of the island with glassy smooth waters for the night.

The skipper could tell I was interested in sailing and had me sailing for most of one of the days. I could read and explain many of the instruments I learnt about from one of the volunteer boat owners with SLYS which got me extra credit.

Best of all I felt relaxed and content, and you couldn’t wipe the smile from my face. I can definitely see myself finding a skipper and learning how to crew.

Thank you for sharing your love and passion of sailing through Sailing Lifts Your Spirits and giving us the opportunity to forget about work for a while and connect with others and the environment around us. It’s definitely something I’ll be exploring further.
