The Philosophy of SOULVoices Gospel Group is that all are welcome to join. We love diversity. "If you have breath in your lungs you can be a SOULVoice member!"
The initial launch of the SOULVoices Gospel Group was for term 4, October 2020. However due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Group will launched in early 2021.

SOULVoice Gospel Group (SVGG)
SOULVoices is an up-and-coming community grou
p and choir in the City of Whittlesea. It comprises of members whose main reasons for joining are for enjoyment, creativity, learning the skills required for singing as a group and for meeting new people with similar interests! Most of the people interested in joining SOULVoices have basic to intermediate vocal experience. Though the meeting venue for through group is a church auditorium, the group is a community group. We welcome participants of all nationalities, creeds, and ages from 18 years upward. Being a community group, no background in choral singing or sight reading skills are required, though some experience in both are welcomed. We estimate the commencement date will be early 2021. In the mean time we have a Facebook Group to share updates, repertoire ideas and comments.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT? FUN! MUSIC! LAUGHS! Members of SOULVoices will learn the fundamentals of vocal technique, vocal warm ups and exercises, aural training and activities to enhance group singing, singing in harmony, Traditional and Modern Gospel songs and Afro-American Spiritual repertoire. We also will encourage solo singing within the gospel repertory and give interested members a chance to sing solo parts from within the choir. We will sometime use of basic percussion instruments to enhance rhythm, and same stage craft and gospel choreography. You will learn songs such as O Happy Day, Freedom is Comin’, Amazing Grace, Songs by Gospel music artists such as Lauren Daigle, Kirk Franklin and many others
in part harmony! The SOULVoices Choir will be training to perform in various venues and events around the Northern suburbs of Melbourne and beyond.

OUTLINE OF FIRST SESSION
1. Introductions
2. Giving of the material and repertoire.
3. Vocal warm up and basic technique
4. Finalising the grouping in vocal types (SATB)
5. Learning of the first piece of music in a fun, proactive, manner using clapping, rhythm exercises and repetition of parts.
6. Combining of parts to practice the songs fully harmonised. Songs will be generally easy and fun to sing with the goal of learning a new song each week or fortnight at the most. (Audio practice tracks will be sent each week pertaining to the session in question to assist in personal practice and familiarity of vocal parts)

International performer Michelle Francis Cook was trained in the VCA (University of Melbourne) and received a Graduate Diploma in Opera (Voice). She won several singing competitions and scholarships including the prestigious Acclaim Awards and trained as a Young Artist in the Opera of Florence, Italy. Her 15 year career as a performer included opera, comedy and music theatre, orchestral concerts, and TV appearances in Barcelona Spain, performing live for TeleTaxi TV, Telecinco in the contemporary vocal competition Levantate. She trained in Vocal teaching, Masterclasses and Courses in Italy, Spain, and Germany. She was the Head of the Vocal department of Carro de Baco Aula de Teatro, where she trained over 100 students in contemporary singing, stagecraft and ensemble. Michelle trained a youth Gospel Choir 2010 - 2018 and was guest vocal trainer of the BlueMove Blues choir 2018, in Barcelona. A number of her students were accepted in The Voice Spain (La Voz), including her student, Soul/Jazz singer Esmeralda Colette, who reached the finals in 2016.

FEES
As this is a community group, members are only to pay a small administration fee TBA. The fee covers SOULVoices Choir Folder and name tag, printout and photocopies of songs and vocal exercises, and other material.
