Friday Good News Story!

Over the past 12 months, Eco Warriors Australia and Narrap Rangers have been working alongside students across the Yarra Ranges to restore River Blackfish habitat and learn about the importance of a healthy Birrarung (Yarra River).

With guidance from River Blackfish experts, the amazing team at Austral Research and Consulting, we’re creating fish hotels designed to provide important habitat for these special native fish.

Fingers crossed that one day the students and Rangers will see their hard work pay off, with River Blackfish thriving once again throughout the Birrarung.

Youth Climate Action Fund🐢

Last year Eco Warriors Australia was a successful recipient of the Youth Climate Action Fund, supporting our Yedabila Habitat Pods – Air-Conditioned Turtle Domes project.

I cannot speak highly enough of the support and opportunities provided throughout the project. The Youth Climate Action Fund helped us with resources and building a platform to turn an idea into meaningful action to fight against climate change.

Bringing Mornington’s Wetlands Back to Life.

A huge shout-out to the crew at Citizen Science Crew and all the incredible volunteers at Mornington Way for getting stuck into this project!

We’re currently trialling Yedabila Habitat Pods in a degraded wetland areas such as this farm dam. The pods provide structure and shelter while aquatic plants establish. Once the habitat and vegetation take off, we hope this site can become a refuge and nursery area for small-bodied native fish — helping populations grow before fish can be safely released into other wetlands across the landscape.

Binak Habitat Pods

Recently, students from Yarra Glen Primary School, Yering Primary School, Coldstream Primary School and Lilydale Primary School have been getting hands-on with habitat restoration through our Binak Habitat Pod Project, thanks to the Yarra Ranges Council.

Students learned how to create Binak habitat pods and discovered how these structures can provide habitat for native wildlife.

We are closely working with river blackfish experts to explore how Binak pods and fish hotels can be used to help regenerate river blackfish numbers throughout the Yarra Ranges.

Students also had the opportunity to make seed bombs, which will be used to restore Indigenous plants back into the ecosystem.

NAIDOC Week 2026!!!
Eco Warriors Australia were proud to host Deadly on the Court, bringing together local police, Traditional Owners and the community to celebrate 50 years of deadly.

The day was filled with basketball, live music from Lou Green, a yidaki performance by Uncle Ron Murray & our very own Kai, Bush Tucker, Seed Mob merchandise and plenty of smiles throughout the day.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along and also a big thank you to Seed Mob funding the day as well as British Solar Renewables for funding the deadly shirts.

What a beautiful day at Royal Park creating Yedabila Habitat Pods with the community!

The rain held off, making it a perfect day to come together, connect with nature, and share our love for the Superb Fairy-wren — a much-loved and frequent visitor to Royal Park.

A big thank you to the Narrap Rangers for their support in facilitating and helping run the workshops.

Recently we spent a beautiful day at Westgate Park learning, connecting, and creating Yedabila habitat pods together.

The day began with a guided bush walk led by Kai, exploring the local landscape, plants, and stories of Country. We then spent time learning about the Superb Fairy-wren — Waatji Pulyeri, meaning “little one of the lignum bush” — and the important role these small birds play.

A big thank you to everyone who came along and helped make the day so special.
