The AKP associations vision is to preserve, promote and develop Karen culture and history. Whilst sharing and learning alongside Australia’s multicultural communities we can all build stronger connections and meet the needs of our culturally diverse communities. AKP hopes to provide ongoing support to Karen people in Burma particularly youth, to preserve their culture and history, access to education and social services, improve living standards, support physical and mental health and provide emergency aid and support. AKP’s mission is to support Karen youth in the community with training and education to preserve and promote their culture and history through Poe Karen literature classes, cultural awareness, youth life and leadership skills, traditional Karen dancing, singing and playing of musical instruments. The key MISSION of the AKP is to raise awareness in the broader Australian Karen community to never forget about the continual suffering and oppression of Karen people in Burma. Supporting Karen youth in Australia and Karen youth in Burma will create a stronger bond between these two distant communities, facilitating better educated, mindful, empathetic, and strong Karen leaders for the future.
