Today, on National Police Remembrance Day, the 000Foundation pauses to remember the police officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty, and those we have lost to the unseen scars carried from their service.

As fellow emergency service members, we’re proud to stand alongside our colleagues in blue at incidents, within our communities and in service to others.

To every member of Victoria Police, past and present: thank you for your service.

And to the families, friends and colleagues of those no longer with us, today we remember them with you.

We will remember them.

FRIDAY FUNDRAISING UPDATE — WE’RE MAKING HISTORY!

With 8 days to go, we’ve hit $755,841 — officially making 2026 the 3rd highest fundraising year in Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb history.

And we haven’t even climbed yet.

But we’re not finished.

Our target is $1 MILLION before the first climber hits the stairs at 8am on September 12.

We have $244,159 left to raise.

With around 1,000 climbers, that means we need roughly:

$244 MORE PER CLIMBER.

Or broken down across the remaining time:

About $29 PER CLIMBER, PER DAY.

A Visit to Lifeline Melbourne

Recently, 000 Foundation Board Members Trent and Fiona had the opportunity to visit the incredible team at Lifeline Melbourne and present a cheque recognising the funds raised through the Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb

Since 2016, the Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb community has raised an extraordinary $2,178,385 for Lifeline.

But behind every dollar is something far more important.

With an average cost of $39 to answer a call—covering the recruitment, training, support and ongoing development of Lifeline’s crisis supporters and team leaders—that funding has helped make possible more than 55,800 conversations with Australians in need.

That’s over 55,800 opportunities for someone to be heard.
55,800 moments of hope.
55,800 lives touched by the work of Lifeline.

To every climber, donor, volunteer, sponsor and supporter who has contributed to this journey—thank you. Together, you are helping ensure that when someone reaches out for help, there is a trained and compassionate voice on the other end of the line.

A special day at Peter Mac

Today, representatives from the 000 Foundation and the Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb had the privilege of visiting the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre to see firsthand the incredible work being supported through the generosity of our climbers, donors and supporters.

Joining the visit were, last year’s highest individual fundraiser, Tanya from Strathbogie CFA (Country Fire Authority), and Tom from Buninyong-Mount Helen Fire Brigade, representing one of the event’s outstanding fundraising teams.

The visit provided a valuable opportunity to learn more about the world-leading cancer research, treatment and patient support programs delivered by Peter Mac, and to see the real impact that fundraising efforts are having on the lives of Australians affected by cancer.

Since partnering with Peter Mac, the Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb community has helped contribute more than $1 million towards cancer research and patient care, a remarkable achievement made possible by thousands of firefighters, emergency service personnel, volunteers, sponsors and supporters.

Thank you to the Peter Mac team for their warm welcome and for sharing the important work being undertaken every day. We are proud to support your mission and look forward to continuing this partnership into the future.

Is Running your thing?

Are you taking on any fun runs, half marathons or marathons and want to raise some funds for good cause!

Well, good news! The 000 Foundation is set up to fundraise through grassrootz for the Run Melbourne and Nike Melbourne Marathon Festival!

So if you’re taking part in a run, be it for fun or for a cause, and would like to raise funds for the 000 Foundation! We’d be honoured to have you!

One of our Directors, Chris, will be running the Half Marathon at Run Melbourne! We will be there to cheer him on!

Remembering Black Saturday – 7 February 2009

Today we pause to remember Black Saturday, one of Australia’s darkest days.

We acknowledge the 173 lives lost, the families and communities forever changed, and the survivors who continue to live with the physical, emotional and psychological impacts.

We also recognise the first responders, firefighters, paramedics, police, SES, volunteers and support staff who ran toward danger that day, and who for many, carry the effects of what they saw and did long after the fires were out.

For some people, days like today can bring up strong memories and heavy emotions, especially for those who were directly involved, lost loved ones, or responded on the ground. If this day is hard for you, please know you don’t have to carry it alone.

Important Update – Emergency Services Stair Climb Sydney

We wanted to provide an update to everyone who has shown interest in the upcoming Emergency Services Stair Climb – Sydney.
Unfortunately, Crown Sydney has made an internal decision to withdraw from hosting the event in 2026.
As a result, we will not be proceeding with the climb next year in Sydney.

This will not impact the Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb.

While this is disappointing news, especially after the incredible interest and enthusiasm shown by emergency services personnel across Australia and beyond, we want to reassure everyone that this is not the end of the Sydney climb.

The 000Foundation remains committed to bringing this event to life, and planning will now shift toward launching in 2027. We are already exploring new options and partners to ensure the event can reach its full potential.

To everyone who expressed interest, reached out, or planned to participate—thank you. Your support and passion for this cause have been incredible, and we can’t wait to climb with you soon.

Please stay tuned for further updates. The climb will be back, stronger than ever.
