Meet Anand Warrier, our 2026 Menzies Speech Competition winner for the Year 11/12 student category!

Representing Xavier College, Anand impressed the panel with his speech on the 2026 theme - "After 75 years, is the Australia-US alliance still in our national interest?"

As the winner of the Year 11/12 category, Anand had the opportunity to speak in front of an international audience recently at the Sydney International Strategy Forum 2026.

Thank you to the United States Studies Centre for inviting Anand and reflecting on his insights of the Alliance as a young Australian.

Meet Laisa Gordon, our 2026 Menzies Speech Competition winner for the Year 9/10 student category!

Representing Bethany College Hurstville, Laisa delighted the panel with her inspired speech on the 2026 theme - "After 75 years, is the Australia-US alliance still in our national interest?"

We are excited to see her again in November during our Sixth Annual Conference, where she will present her winning speech at the event.

We have hosted our Robert Menzies Institute Annual Oration & Dinner for six years, and each year we've been fortunate to have such wonderful speakers delight our members.

On this day, 22 September 1951, Australia votes on a constitutional amendment that would allow the Federal Government to make laws on communists and communism, giving effect to a ban of the Communist Party that had been overturned by the High Court.

The referendum is narrowly defeated, with ‘yes’ receiving 49.44% of the vote while prevailing in Queensland, Western Australia and Tasmania.

The attempt to ban the Communist Party remains one of the most controversial policies of the Menzies era and many people credit the referendum result with helping to maintain the integrity of our liberal democracy.

Last night was full of excitement at our 2026 Annual Oration and Dinner. Individuals from all across Australia joined us for an evening of national reflection and meaningful historical discussion.

We were thrilled to welcome Andrew Roberts, Lord Roberts of Belgravia, as our speaker. His engaging and insightful oration "One Soaring Imagination: The Destiny of the English-Speaking Peoples in the Twenty-First Century" was a highlight of the evening enjoyed by all our guests.
