Our community has spoken, and we've heard your call for climate action. 🌏📣

We're thrilled to announce that last night Council resolved to ban fossil fuel advertising on all venues and facilities owned by the City of Yarra, such as our community rooms and sports grounds.

In line with our community’s values, we're treating fossil fuel advertising just like alcohol, to***co, and gambling ads – they have no place on Council property.

The ban will be phased in sensibly as commercial agreements expire.

🏢👨‍👩‍👦‍👦📚 Plans are forging ahead for the Baw Baw Culture and Connection Precinct Stage One, Library and Learning Centre. Detailed designs are now complete, and the project will soon be ready for tender.

🌳 Council is targeting Green Star 5 Certification for the project, which will be at least 30% more energy efficient than similar buildings, running on 100% renewable energy and taking advantage of natural lighting, shade, and ventilation.

👷‍♀️ The project will prioritise local, renewable, low-maintenance and fire-resistant materials. Architects, Croxon Ramsay, have identified timber as the most environmentally sustainable building material for the project. Mass-laminated timber products will be used for the beams, columns, floors and frame of the building as an alternative to finite, resource-intensive steel and concrete.

📝 You can join the Baw Baw Culture and Connection Precinct community advocacy campaign by visiting the link below. The site provides quick and easy access to a letter of support that will be emailed directly to all local MPs and relevant ministers.

Today's is the Grass-Trigger-plant. Enhance the beauty of your space with the addition of this exquisite grassy plant 🌼🌿

Common name: Grass-Trigger-plant

Latin name: Stylidium graminifolium

Description: This beautiful grassy plant looks lovely in pots or rockeries and has pale pink flowers from September to December.

Best suited to: It will grow in local, moist and well drained soils in full sun or partial shade. Once established, it will tolerate both wet and dry conditions.

Care tip: While it can be difficult to establish and may not be long lived, it’s fascinating pollination mechanism is very intriguing to watch - when an insect lands on the flower and touches a ‘trigger’ on the flower base, part of the flower will spring forward depositing pollen onto the insect’s back. As the insects visit various flowers, this pollen is transferred to other plants and pollination is complete.

Glass-Trigger-plant available at the Bayside Community Nursery 🌻

Bayside Community Nursery is located at 315-317 Reserve Road, Cheltenham and is open Thursdays and Saturdays between 10am and 12pm.
