Niddrie Squadron competes every year at the Annual Group Review, and we are proud to consistently bring home a large share of the awards. While we have never previously been large enough to field a competitive flag party, this year marks an exciting turning point for our squadron.

With a steady increase in membership throughout the year, Niddrie is now growing stronger than ever. Last night’s final parade showcased this progress perfectly, with two full flights on parade and a small but developing flag party taking shape. Each week we are getting bigger, better, and more capable — and for the first time, Niddrie Squadron is becoming a genuine contender in all areas of competition, including the flag party.

We are incredibly proud of how far we’ve come and even more excited for what’s ahead!

A huge congratulations to two of our dedicated volunteer officers on their well-deserved promotions and appointments!

🎉 Squadron Lieutenant Roberts has been promoted from First Officer to Squadron Lieutenant and officially appointed as Squadron Adjutant.

🎉 Squadron Lieutenant Duyvestyn has also been promoted from First Officer to Squadron Lieutenant and officially appointed as Squadron Education Officer.

Both officers have consistently demonstrated outstanding commitment, professionalism and leadership within Niddrie Squadron. Their promotions recognise the hard work and countless volunteer hours they dedicate to providing opportunities, guidance and support for our cadets.

As a volunteer youth organisation, everything we achieve is made possible by the incredible people who generously give their time and skills. Niddrie Squadron is incredibly fortunate to have Squadron Lieutenants Roberts and Duyvestyn as part of our team, and we’re equally grateful for the dedication of all of our volunteer officers and staff who work tirelessly behind the scenes each week.

Congratulations again on your well-earned promotions and appointments. We look forward to seeing the continued positive impact you’ll have on our squadron. 👏✈️

Today, 3 Junior Cadets, 3 Cadets, and 3 Adult Members (including myself) proudly represented Niddrie Squadron at the Australian Air League Aircraft Recognition Competition.

Our teams put in a fantastic effort, demonstrating their knowledge, teamwork, and dedication after all of their hard work preparing. We’re incredibly proud of how everyone performed and feel that all three teams did exceptionally well.

The official results won’t be announced until the Annual Group Review on 22 November, so we’ll have to wait a little longer to find out how we placed. Until then, congratulations to all of our competitors—you represented Niddrie Squadron with pride.

Well done, everyone! ✈️💙

Recently the Niddrie Squadron of the Australian Air League visited the RAAF Museum at Point Cook. The visit was highly educational with a wealth of aviation information and history on display. All attendees were impressed by both the quality and volume of aircraft on display across multiple hangers at the base.

A highlight of the day was seeing A46-30, CAC Boomerang, Australia’s first locally designed and built fighter aircraft. Developed during World War II, the Boomerang played an important role in reconnaissance and close air support operations in the Pacific. With only a handful surviving today, it remains one of Australia’s most significant wartime aircraft.

Yesterday, members of Niddrie Squadron were honoured to attend the Bomber Command Remembrance Service at the Shrine of Remembrance.

It is a privilege to represent our Squadron and pay tribute to the brave men and women of Bomber Command who served with courage, sacrifice, and dedication during times of conflict. Their service and commitment helped secure the freedoms we enjoy today.

Niddrie Squadron is especially proud to carry the Bomber Command Victoria flag, ensuring that the legacy and stories of those who served continue to be remembered by future generations.

Lest We Forget.

Congratulations to Sgt Stoican on earning his Student Pilot epaulettes! ✈️

After completing an impressive 37 glider flights, he is now just one step away from achieving his first solo flight. This is a significant milestone on his journey towards earning his Blue Wings and becoming a qualified glider pilot.

The entire Niddrie Squadron is proud of your achievement and looks forward to seeing you take to the skies solo very soon.

Well done, Sgt Stoican!

✈️ Niddrie Squadron Takes to the Skies! ✈️

On Sunday, a group of Niddrie Squadron cadets travelled to Geelong Gliding Club and the Gliding Museum for a fantastic day of aviation activities and learning.

Cadets had the opportunity to explore the rich history of gliding at the museum before heading out to the airfield where they experienced the thrill of flight firsthand.

A special congratulations goes to two of our cadets who overcame their nerves and took to the skies despite being quite apprehensive beforehand. Stepping outside your comfort zone takes courage, and we are incredibly proud of their achievement.

We are also excited to have three Niddrie Squadron cadets currently working towards their Gliding Pilot Licence. It is wonderful to see our members pursuing their aviation goals and taking advantage of the opportunities available through the gliding community.

A big thank you to the volunteers and staff at Geelong Gliding Club for their hospitality and for providing such an inspiring experience for our cadets.
