Solidarity doesn’t stop at our borders.

Students across France are taking to the streets against cuts to higher education, rising living costs and attacks on public services.

The NUS stands in solidarity with French students demanding properly funded universities, better living conditions and a fairer, more equal future.

Youth Allowance is broken.

It’s time to raise payments above the poverty line and abolish the age of independence.

A new National Tertiary Education Union report reveals Australia spends $12.2 billion more subsidising private schools than funding university teaching.

We’re asking students to send a postcard to Education Minister Jason Clare calling on the Government to scrap Job-Ready Graduates and properly fund our public universities at https://betterunis.nteu.au/postcards/

Massive win for students and staff across Victoria!

The Victorian Government has committed to doubling the minimum number of elected student and staff representatives on university councils to at least two each, giving students and staff a stronger voice in the decisions that shape our universities.

A massive thank you to the teams at NTEU Victoria, CAPA and We Are Union for all their work in helping secure this win!

For too long, decisions about university courses, staffing and student services have been made without enough input from the people most affected by them. Stronger student and staff representation means greater accountability, better decisions and better universities.

Today’s National Tertiary Education Union report exposes a staggering $12.2 billion funding gap between private schools and public universities.

The Federal Government spends almost two and a half times more subsidising private schools than funding Australia’s 39 public universities.

Students are paying more for their degrees while universities remain underfunded.

It’s time to repeal Job Ready Graduates, cut student fees and properly fund public universities.

WA’s proposed merger of Curtin, Murdoch and UWA risks larger classes, job losses and worse learning conditions.

Bigger universities don’t necessarily mean better education. Students and staff deserve a genuine say in the future of their universities, and the WA Government must not proceed without their support.

Student work belongs in student hands.

Students shouldn’t have to hand over their work to train AI just because their university requires them to use Turnitin.

Universities have a responsibility to protect the work students create, and they don’t have to accept these terms.

Australian universities should say no.

233 university executives are earning more than their state premiers.

Students are struggling to afford rent and groceries, while universities cut staff, courses and support.

A system that delivers extraordinary salaries at the top while students and staff bear the consequences of cuts is fundamentally broken.

Universities should serve the people who learn and work in them, not the interests of highly paid executives.
