Thank you everyone for joining today's panel discussion 'Misidentification: The Cost of Getting It Wrong'.

The informative discussion was a great way to mark the start of , with panelists bringing together their valued knowledge, insights and expertise around this important issue.

The panel highlighted the important of family violence prevention work, service response that helps victim/survivors accessing legal advice early, comprehensive training for law, police, and specialist workers to identify risk for collusion and system abuse, and most importantly responding to recovery from harms.

We hope participants were left feeling more informed around the topic of misidentification, and continue exploring the ways we can advocate for systemic change for those groups who are marginalised and over represented.

Thank you to our panelists:

🔹 Laura Heffes [Law and Advocacy Centre for Women Ltd],
🔹 Kate Bishop [WIRE],
🔹 Druma D. [Multicultural Women's Alliance against Family Violence]
🔹 Mariam Deng [Australian Muslim Women's Centre for Human Rights]

our host Kareena Horsman, and to Women's Health Victoria for letting us use their space.

Are you interested in joining WIRE's Board? We are now recruiting Board Directors!

We are seeking to strengthen WIRE’s governance capacity through this recruitment process by appointing up to three new Directors, including to fulfil an office-bearer role of “Secretary”.

Our Board (currently six members) is collaborative and dynamic, with a strong, collective understanding of the strategic direction of WIRE. Four Directors will reach the end of their terms at the 2026 AGM (November), with at least two having notified the Board that they will not stand for re-election. Therefore, we are now recruiting to fill those future skills gaps.

The Board meets approximately six times per year, with meetings held outside business hours with a flexible mix of face-to-face and online. All Board Directors are required to participate in at least one sub-committee, as relevant to their skills and experiences (usually online). Our current Board sub-committees are:

● Finance and Income Generation (FIG)
● Governance, Nominations and Compliance (GNC)
● Strategy, Impact and Risk (StIR)

If you're interested in these positions, you can read the full descriptions here - https://www.ethicaljobs.com.au/members/WIRE/board-directors-sub-committee-members-voluntary

To apply, please submit a CV and cover letter outlining your suitability for this role to [email protected]

Applications close at 5pm on Monday, 11 May 2026.
