I proudly announce that SEAW has joined the SEBET Consortium together with our partners BEST Ethiopia and Ethioden. Under the technical leadership of Ethioden the consortium will develop a mobile phone-based software that can be used for a number of purposes in the field related to real-time disaster reporting, automatic data generation and multi-layered usage. I know it sounds a little vague but good things come to those who can wait. The development stage is already under way.

As you may remember a while back I posted that we had received a generous donation from Candace International School. On a recent trip to Addis Ababa I visited Candace and I was very impressed with their compound in Addisu Gebeya. It was clean, well organised and laid out, great facilities with quality finishing. Candace showed consistent and cohesive branding throughout and they have a fantastic underlying philosophy of “transformative” teaching methods that empowers Ethiopian young minds in a modern world. I believe that Candace and SEAW could do good things together and we are currently in talks with the school to explore what we can do and how we can do it.

SEAW’s network family is growing. I am proud to announce that Felege Tena Podoconiosis and Integrated Development (FTPIDO) and Solar Energy for African Women (SEAW) have signed a MOU with Mr. Demelash Admassu, Executive Director, to agree to work on health and WASH related issues in rural areas particularly on neglected diseases. Women and children are mostly affected by these and our combined efforts will make a profound impact on their lives.

Farewell Fosera.

Today is my final day at Fosera Manufacturing PLC following my resignation last month. For almost 6 ½ years Fosera has been my “home” and it’s staff my family. It has been an exhilarating ride through the turbulent Ethiopian economic landscape. I have gained a wealth of knowledge about the Ethiopian solar industry and made many friends on the way. Fosera is a fantastic company with vision that gives unproven talent a chance to shine and grow, a fact that I always loved about the management. Honest and straight shooting, this organization has shown constant integrity throughout my tenure, even during the most difficult periods. All those who supported this company with your service and custom over the years, I encourage you to keep doing so.

However, for me personally it is now time to move on, to face new challenges. As I am leaving with a heavy heart I am also looking towards a new horizon. I spent some years building my civil society organization (CSO) ‘Solar Energy for African Women’ (SEAW) together with a small team of like-minded people. While I have been balancing full time work at Fosera with working on SEAW, it has been steadily gaining significant traction that it now needs my undivided attention. SEAW is pushing ahead to be a champion for rural African and especially Ethiopian women who deserve support on their road to true economic and social empowerment. I hope and pray that those who have been following SEAW’s journey so far also continue to support us into a bright future.
