We are a professionally-led, therapy & mutual support service for those with metastatic breast cancer and partners. A third group is for partners of the women.

Our service is free to those who participate. Thursday Girls provides two weekly therapeutic support groups for women living with advanced, or metastatic breast cancer. The group has two main functions: to share information and to get in touch with the feelings associated with living with advanced breast cancer.

🩷 Making a real difference to real women.

When you’re diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer, the world stops. It’s scary, overwhelming, and isolating — and often, there’s no one in your circle who truly understands.

That’s where Thursday Girls comes in.

Since 1997, we’ve offered a free, professionally-led therapeutic support group to Victorian women living with MBC and their partners. Small. Intimate. Powerful. And completely free to every woman who needs it.

We receive zero government funding. Every session, every counsellor, every moment of connection exists only because of people like you.

We carry the treasured memories of three dearly loved members of our Thursday Girls family in our hearts.

We honour Tess (June 2025), Diana (June 2025) and Claire (June 2020).

Three incredible women who faced life with such courage and grace, and gave so much of themselves to this group. Their kindness, their smiles and the warmth they shared with us will never be forgotten.

Always in our hearts. Always remembered. 💗💗💗

Alongside our free, weekly, professionally-led group counselling for women with metastatic breast cancer, we also support their partners with a similar model.

When supporting their loved one who is facing an incurable diagnosis, it can be difficult for existing networks to provide the right sort of support, or for friends and family to really understand what is going on.

Once or twice a month, partners attend an online group counselling session, giving them a chance to feel that they are not alone, to hear from others sharing their own challenges and to be better equipped at dealing with whatever comes their way.

Some strong bonds have been formed over the years in our Partner groups, leading to even better support systems beyond the group.

We would like to take a moment to thank all our volunteers at Thursday Girls.

To all those people who were there from the early days and helped us get established as a registered NFP

To those women who gave what they could while facing into metastatic breast cancer themselves and have now left a legacy of what we continue to deliver.

To those who turn up at BBQs, Canteens, Information days, Bake sales, and all the other events we hold each year to help out.

To the partners of our members and facilitators who come along in support.

To those friends and family of our Thursday Girls who believe in what we do and continue to help when we need you.

To our Board members, who help to move us forward and help ensure we are here to help all the future women who need us.

And to all our members, who share their stories, their challenges and themselves to help others become more aware of metastatic breast cancer.

We appreciate you. Not just this week, during National Volunteer Week, but every day, and every event.

Today is International Nurses Day.

Thursday Girls Group would like to thank all the nurses in our lives.

The oncology and radiation nurses who support us through treatment, palliative care nurses who help us to manage pain and guide us through the final stages, the emergency department nurses who are efficient and compassionate, the ward nurses who make our hospital stays bearable and the fabulous McGrath metastatic breast care nurses who are invaluable.

Thank you for all you do . We see you, we hear you and we appreciate you.

Mother’s Day fundraising at Blackburn Footy Club, who have been so supportive over the years!

Our cupcakes, keep cups and aprons were flying off the table and we loved being a part of their Mother’s Day celebrations.

It was a Mother’s Day morning for appreciating those Mums who we still hold close, but also acknowledging those we have lost.

Mother's Day often brings up a lot of emotions for those who have experienced the loss of their mother, sister or daughter, the women who are normally celebrated on this day.

At Thursday Girls we have sadly seen many families lose their mothers, sisters or daughters to metastatic breast cancer.

Each loss changes how you feel about every celebration and milestone.

This Sunday, we will take a moment to cherish all those incredible women, past and present, who have made up the fabric of Thursday Girls over the years, and know that we keep them in our hearts.

If you are lucky enough to still have these women in your life, appreciate every moment.

The Mother's Day raffle has been run and won!

Congrats to our winners (whose identity we are preserving to keep it a surprise in case it's a gift). I can reveal they include a volunteer, someone from the local footy club and a relative of one of our Thursday Girls who we lost over a year ago.

Thanks to our wonderful Thursday Girls, supporters and friends who donated the raffle prizes. We raised $1655 over 2 weeks, which will go towards our costs of running our free, weekly group counselling sessions.

Special call out to our major donor Tilnak Fine Art Portraits for the 3 generous portrait sessions, Lynbrook Village Pharmacy for the first prize hamper, Zinc in Hawthorn for the second prize hamper, Keen Edge for the Gold Class movie tickets and to everyone from our little community who pulled the raffle together.

Without government funding, we rely on the community and some major donors to help us provide this important support to our members, women with metastatic breast cancer.
