We have attended the Ethnic Communities' Council of Victoria (ECCV) State Election Forum 2026, moderated by renowned Greek-Australian journalist Benita Kolovos.

The forum brought together representatives from Victoria's major political parties, including Iwan Walters MP (Labor), Anasina Gray-Barberio MP (Greens), and Evan Mulholland MP (Liberal Party), providing an important opportunity for multicultural communities to hear directly from political leaders and discuss issues that matter most to their communities.

This state election is one of the most consequential in recent memory. As community members, we have a powerful opportunity to make our voices heard through our votes.

The decisions made by the next Victorian Government will have a direct impact on our communities, including multicultural affairs, education, health, housing, employment, community services and social cohesion.

We encourage everyone to stay informed, engage with the issues, and vote wisely. Our vote is our voice, and together we can help shape a future that reflects the needs and aspirations of our community.

We recently attended a meeting with The Premier of Victoria, the Hon. Ben Carroll MP, to discuss issues of importance to our community.

The meeting provided a valuable opportunity for members of the African community to engage in an open and constructive dialogue with the Premier. We were able to share community perspectives, highlight key challenges, and discuss opportunities for greater support and inclusion.

We trust that the issues raised during the discussion will be carefully considered in the development of future policies, programs and funding initiatives that benefit our community and broader Victorian society.

National Carers Week 2026 | 11-17 October

This week, we join communities across Australia in recognising and celebrating the more than 3 million Australians who provide unpaid care and support to family members and friends.

The 2026 National Carers Week theme is “Care for a Carer: Making Carers Visible", highlighting the invaluable contribution carers make every day and encouraging all Australians to recognise, support and care for the carers in their communities. 

At ECAV, we proudly acknowledge and thank the Ethiopian and African carers who selflessly dedicate their time, energy and love to supporting others. Whether caring for an ageing parent, a child with additional needs, a family member living with illness or disability, or a loved one facing mental health challenges, your contribution strengthens families and enriches our community.

We have attended the Australian Peace Summit 2026 – Collective Impact for a Thriving Australia, commemorating the 12th Anniversary of the HWPL World Peace Summit.

The event was both inspiring and empowering, with a strong focus on helping young people realise their potential, build confidence, and become the best version of themselves through positive support and collaboration.

Congratulations to HWPL Peace Education Victoria for organising such a successful and impactful event. Your dedication to peacebuilding, youth empowerment, and community collaboration is truly commendable.

We were delighted to attend the Diwali Charity Gala hosted by the Western Health Foundation. It was a fantastic evening filled with meaningful connections, giving us the opportunity to catch up with old friends and make new ones.

A special thank you to Cr Cuc Lam for the generous invitation on behalf of Zaparas Lawyers. We always value the opportunity to learn from and be inspired by events that bring communities together in the spirit of generosity and inclusion.

ርዕሰ አድባራት ደብረ ሰላም መድኃኔዓለም የኢትዮጵያ ኦርቶዶክስ ቤተክርስትያን በአውስትራሊያ ሁለገብ ማዕከል በዛሬው እለት ከፍተኛ የመንግስት ባለስልጣናት፣ ብፁአን አባቶች (ብፁእ አቡነ ዮሴፍ፣ ብፁእ አቡነ ጴጥሮስ) ተጋባዥ እንግዶች እና ምእመናን በተገኙበት በከፍተኛ ሁኔታ ተመርቆ ተከፈተ።

ይህንን ማዕከል ከውጥኑ እስከ ፍፃሜው ደከመኝ ስለቸኝ ሳይሉ በእግዚአብሐር ፈቃድ ለደከሙት በሙሉ እንኳን ደስ አላቹህ ማለት እንወዳለን።

The multipurpose centre built by the Holy Saviour Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church has officially been opened in the presence of The Hon. Luba Grigorovitch MP, The Hon. Dr Daniel Mulino, Iwan Walters MP, Mayor Mohamed Semra - City of Maribyrnong, Trung Luu MP - Member For Western Metropolitan Region, Cr Dr Phillip Zada - Mount Atkinson Ward - Melton City Council, Councillor Steve Abboushi - City of Melton, Cr Cuc Lam, the holy fathers, invited guests, and members of the church congregation.

We would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations and sincere gratitude to everyone whose dedication, hard work, and commitment made this significant achievement possible. Their efforts have helped bring this vision to life for the benefit of the church and the wider community.

FYI The Holy Saviour Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church was established on July 1992. The very church in the southern hemisphere.
