The European Centre for Law and Justice (ECLJ) has released a detailed report documenting the massacre of Orthodox Christians in East Arsi, outlining patterns of targeted violence, the failure of local authorities to protect civilians, and the urgent humanitarian implications of the attacks.

The report calls on the United Nations Office on Genocide Prevention and the Responsibility to Protect (OSAPG, https://www.un.org/en/genocide-prevention) to investigate the situation, assess the risk factors for mass atrocity crimes, and take immediate preventive measures in line with its mandate. It urges the international community to ensure accountability, protect vulnerable populations, and support mechanisms that can prevent further escalation.

የዓለም የአረጋውያን ጥቃት ግንዛቤ ቀን - ጁን 15

የአረጋውያን ጥቃት ከምናስበው በላይ አዘውትሮ ይከሰታል። በዚህ ቀን በማህበረሰባችን ውስጥ የአረጋውያንን ክብር እና ደህንነት ለመጠበቅ አንድ ላይ መቆም አለብን።

የአረጋውያን ጥቃት ምንድን ነው? የገንዘብ፣ የስሜት፣ የስነልቦና፣ የአካል፣ የወሲብ ወይም ማህበራዊ ሊሆን ይችላል።

ይህንን ጥቃት የሚያደርሰው ማነው? አብዛኛዎቹ ጉስቁልናዎች በቤተሰብ ውስጥ ይከሰታሉ። 88 በመቶ የሚሆኑት አጎሳቋዮች የቤተሰብ አባላት ሲሆኑ ከእነዚህም ውስጥ 70 በመቶ የሚሆኑት የተጎሳቋዮች አዋቂ ልጆች ናቸው።

በአብዛኛው ይህ ጥቃት የሚደርስበት በማን ላይ ነው? እርዳታ ከሚፈልጉት ሰዎች ሁለት ሶስተኛ የሚሆኑት እንግሊዘኛ የመጀመሪያ ቋንቋቸው ያልሆኑ ወይም ዘራቸው ከአውስትራሊያ ቀደምት ነዋሪ ህዝቦች የሚመዘዝ ሴቶች ናቸው።

እድሜያቸው ከ65 እና ከዚያ በላይ ከሆኑ ሰዎች ውስጥ ከስድስት ሰዎች አንዱ በየዓመቱ አንድ ዓይነት የአረጋውያን ጥቃት ይደርስባቸዋል።

Elder abuse happens more often than we think. Today we stand together to protect the dignity and safety of older people in our community.

What is elder abuse? It can be financial, emotional, psychological, physical, sexual or social.

Who commits it? Most cases happen within families.
88 percent of abusers are family members out of which 70 percent are adult children.

Who is most affected? Two thirds of people seeking help are women from CALD, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

One in six people aged 65 and over will experience some form of elder abuse each year.
