Last night we attended the Premier’s Multicultural Gala Dinner 2026, a celebration of Victoria’s diversity and the communities that shape it.

Auntie Annette reminded us of the spirit of welcome and belonging: “My house is your home.”

The Hon. Paul Edbrooke MP highlighted the foundation of our shared strength: “Victoria’s diversity is its strength.”

The Hon. Julian Hill MP affirmed the richness of our collective identity: “We are not monoculture.”

The Premier of Victoria, The Hon. Ben Carroll MP, reflected on the deep history of this land: “Victoria has always been diverse. The traditional owners of the land were diverse before the Europeans came to this land.”

The international award-winning play Funeral Flowers, written by Black British playwright Emma Dennis-Edwards and directed by Candy Bowers, is coming to Melbourne’s west for one night only. Featuring a virtuosic performance by actor Lucy Ansell, this powerful and deeply moving production explores resilience, identity, social inequality, and the extraordinary ability to create beauty amidst hardship. This event welcomes Black audiences and celebrates Black women writing, directing and acting, it is not to be missed!

የወፍ ጉንፋን (H5N1) ቪክቶሪያን ጨምሮ በበርካታ ግዛቶች የዱር ወፎችን እያጠቃ ነው። በሽታው ዶሮ እርባታ ቦታዎች ውስጥ አስከ አሁን አልተከሰተም፣ በዚህ ምክንያት ዶሮ እና እንቁላል መብላት ምንም ችግር አያመጣም።

ስለዚህ በሽታ ማወቅ ያለብዎት
- በፓርኮች ወይም በሚኖሩበት አካባቢ የታመሙ ወይም የሞቱ ወፎችን ከመንካት ይቆጠቡ
- ያልተለመዱ የወፎችን ሞት ካዮ ወደ Emergency Animal Disease Hotline: 1800 675 888 ይደውሉ
- ሰዎች በዚህ በሽታ መጠቃታቸው እምብዛም ያልተለመደ ሲሆን በዚህ በሽታ ለመያዝ ብዙውን ጊዜ ከተበከሉ ወፎች ጋር የቅርብ ግንኙነት ያስፈልጋል
- ወፎችን ከነኩ በኋላ የህመም ስሜት ከተሰማዎት ወደ Victorian Public Health Unit: 1300 651 160 ይደውሉ
- ወቅታዊ የጉንፋን ክትባት እንዲወስዱ ይመከራል።

ያስታውሱ
- በደንብ የበሰሉ የዶሮ ምርቶችን መመገብ ችግር አያመጣም
- ስለዚህ በሽታ ትክክለኛውን መረጃ ማግኘት ተገቢ ቢሆንም መጨነቅ አያስፈልግም

🦅 Bird Flu Update
Bird flu (H5N1) is affecting wild birds in several states, including Victoria. There are no cases in poultry farms, and cooked chicken and eggs remain safe.

What you need to know
- Avoid touching sick or dead birds in parks or neighbourhoods.
- Report unusual bird deaths to the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline: 1800 675 888
- Human infection is rare and usually requires close contact with infected birds.
- If you feel unwell after contact with birds, call the Victorian Public Health Unit: 1300 651 160
- Seasonal flu vaccination is recommended.

Quick reassurance
- Poultry products are safe when cooked.
- ECAV members should stay aware, not alarmed.
