Submissions close this Sunday! Welcoming D. Tyrone to Playback! D. Tyrone (Dirk Tyrone Peterson) is a DJ, producer, and visual artist.

As a producer, Dirk is inspired by old-school bass, breaks, garage, and turn-of-the-century techno. This inspiration shines through their recent tracks on ADHD Edits, Head Rush, Love Above, and their collaborative EP with Jo Christy on Confide Records. Outside of club productions, Dirk is the label boss for eco-ambient project Binaural Audio Telecommunication System, an exploration of ultrasonic frequencies produced by Victorian microbats.

D. Tyrone joins collaborator Jo Christy to facilitate Playback on Wednesday 30 September.

Up next, Jo Christy facilitates Playback with D. Tyrone!

Jo Christy is a DJ, producer, and multi-instrumentalist drawing from backgrounds in jazz, punk, hardcore, and dance music. Jo’s productions sit somewhere between club functionality and playful experimentation with a focus on groove, texture, and emotional impact. When she’s not producing club tracks, you can find her recording punk bands, filling in as a session musician, or working on film and television scores.

Working predominantly with hardware, Jo builds tracks around an ever-evolving setup of Elektron machines, analogue synths, and a sample heavy process. Her workflow draws heavily from a samples taken from her extensive vinyl collection, field recordings, and interesting tones.

Jo is an active contribute to Naarm’s q***r underground music community and runs the Work Wife, a party series and imprint which has released her No Mistress EP. Jo has also debuted a collaboration with D. Tyrone on Confide Records.

Submissions close midnight Sunday 13 September.
