True support is not about taking over it is about walking alongside someone.

With the right encouragement, practical tools and meaningful opportunities, people can build confidence, strengthen their independence and take greater control of their own journey.

At Mates Care, we focus on what each person can do while providing the right level of support when it is needed.

Your goals. Your choices. Our support.

Not like something that takes it over.

At Mates Care, we understand that everyone has their own routine, preferences and goals. That’s why we start by getting to know you, not simply reading your plan.

Together, we can create support that feels comfortable, dependable and genuinely helpful.

What can that look like?

🗓️ Support arranged around your daily routine
🤝 Familiar support workers wherever possible
💬 Open, respectful and honest communication
🎯 Assistance focused on the goals that matter to you
🌱 Flexibility when your needs or circumstances change

The right support is about more than filling a shift. It’s about building trust, respecting your choices and helping you live life with greater confidence and independence.

Whether you need ongoing support or simply want to understand your options, our team is ready to listen. No pressure and no complicated conversation just a friendly chat about what you need.

Help shape the future of NDIS planning and be paid for your time.

The NDIS is currently inviting participants and nominees to help test parts of the new way of planning.

This is a paid opportunity for NDIS participants and nominees with a range of disability types, support needs and lived experiences to share feedback.

Your input can help the NDIS:

✅ Identify issues early
✅ Understand what is working well
✅ Make improvements based on real participant experiences
✅ Strengthen the new planning process before it is rolled out

Taking part will not change your current NDIS plan, funding or supports. Any information shared will only be used to help improve the new planning process.

📌 Who can apply?

If you are an NDIS participant, you can apply to take part in the testing. You must be 18 years or older to apply.

Participation is voluntary, and not everyone who applies will be selected. The NDIS can also arrange supports to help you take part, including interpreters, live captioning and support workers.

➡️ Applications are open until 31 December 2026, and testing is now underway.

Find out more and apply through the NDIS Engage website:
https://engage.ndis.gov.au/projects/test-the-new-way-of-planning

Please note: Mates Care is not the organiser or administrator of this testing opportunity. We are sharing publicly available information published by the National Disability Insurance Scheme for informational purposes only. For official details, please refer directly to NDIS sources.

🚨 NDIS Short Term Accommodation is changing from 1 July 2026

The NDIS is moving back to the name Short Term Accommodation, also known as STA.

For participants, families, and carers who use short-term support away from home, respite, or overnight stays, these changes are important to understand.

Previously, STA was often claimed as one daily bundled rate covering accommodation, meals, support, and activities.

From 1 July 2026, STA pricing will be separated into different parts, which means invoices may look a little different.

You may now see separate charges for:

✅ Participant accommodation
✅ Support worker accommodation, where needed
✅ Support hours charged by the hour
✅ High-intensity support, where applicable

Support worker rates have also been updated for 2026–27, which may impact STA support hours and other disability support services.

At Mates Care, we are here to help participants and families understand what these changes mean and make sure support remains clear, flexible, and centred around each person’s needs.
