EEON Warmly invites you to our next event.

We are excited to hear from the president of the Australian Human Rights Commission, Hugh de Krester, on; How we can Win a Human Rights Act.
Tickets at https://lnkd.in/gJ2qHN5b

Australia does not currently have a national Human Rights Act. It is the only Western liberal democracy without one. Instead, rights are currently protected through a patchwork of specific federal discrimination laws, common law, and the Constitution.

However, legislating a comprehensive national Human Rights Act is a major, ongoing focus of legal and political reform.

An Australian Human Rights Act will ensure that values we all share – like fairness, respect, dignity and compassion – are always at the heart of all government decisions, laws, and services. Including health, housing, and education.

It will clearly articulate our human rights and freedoms so that everyone from school kids to new migrants can uphold their rights and stand up for what we value as a community.

I hope to see you there

EEON Secretary

A wonderful piece from Michelle Sheppard. It looks at the everyday difficulties of being transgender in 2026. Michelle explores how transgender people have been turned into a wedge issue whilst society deals with lower wages and increased cost of living. Unfortunately, it’s too easy to look for a group to focus on rather than dealing with societies real issues. Anyway, I hope you give this article or read.

What it feels like to live as a visible transgender woman in a time where outrage, algorithms and culture wars have turned ordinary people into public debates.
