Hindus for Human Rights ANZ supports the Red Lines Package introduced to Federal Parliament this week, and the call from almost 125,000 Australians for our country to stop contributing to grave violations of international law. Our member was in Canberra yesterday to extend our support at the media event and presentation.

The principle at the heart of these four bills is one our tradition has always recognised: no life is worth less because of where it is lived.

Australia should not arm, fund, invest in or profit from genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity or illegal occupation, anywhere, under any government.

What matters most to us is that these red lines are universal. They apply in Gaza, in Sudan, in Yemen, and they would apply equally if the state responsible were one many in our own community feel loyalty toward.

That consistency is the test of a principle, and it is why we back putting these obligations into law rather than leaving them to political discretion.
