Yarn Time – Aboriginal Storytelling through Arts ✨🌿

What a beautiful afternoon we shared together at our Yarn Time session! We were so happy to welcome more than 40 participants to join us for this meaningful cultural experience led by Thara Brown from Wala Connections.

Participants enjoyed a wonderful movement workshop, storytelling, creative art activities, and the opportunity to learn about ochre painting β€” including how natural colours are made and mixed with water. Everyone had fun painting on canvas and rocks, and the face painting brought so much joy and laughter to the space.

It was truly special to see our community come together to learn, create, connect, and celebrate Aboriginal culture and heritage in such a warm and welcoming environment.

A heartfelt thank you to Wala Connections and everyone who joined us and made the day so memorable πŸ’›πŸ–€β€οΈ

Last Thursday, we welcomed over 50 community members to Walker Close Community Centre for a vibrant Cultural Diversity Week event with the theme: Lunar New Year - Across Cultures.

Participants enjoyed Vietnamese dance performance and learning the joyful Vietnamese Trong Com dance from Australian Vietnamese Arts & Culture and got creative with origami. We were also delighted by a beautiful Chinese cultural performance by Bonnie from Diversity Academy, who shared the meaning behind Lunar New Year traditions, colours, and special days β€” and even taught us a graceful fan dance!
Last but not least, A special mention to the delicious dumplings from Oriental Teahouse β€” they were a big hit and loved by everyone!

Thank you to everyone who joined us and made this event so lively and meaningful. It was a true celebration of culture, connection, and community πŸ’›

We look forward to seeing you at our next event!

✨ Share Your Story Through Clay – Join the Story Wheel Project!

Have you or your family come from another place to now call Hobsons Bay home?

Join the Story Wheel workshops and help create a beautiful mosaic of handcrafted clay tiles that represent the migration stories of our community. Each tile will capture symbols, memories and messages from people who now call Hobsons Bay home.

These free workshops will be guided by professional sculptors, ceramicists and artists, and everyone is welcome to take part.
