Cultures in Colours – A Beautiful Journey with Chinese Painting!

Over the past few weeks, our participants had the opportunity to explore the beautiful art of traditional Chinese brush painting. They learnt how to use Chinese brushes, practise different brush techniques and bring beautiful colours to life on paper.

Together, we painted orchids and water lilies – two beautiful and meaningful subjects in Chinese art, representing qualities such as beauty, elegance, purity and resilience.

It was lovely to see everyone learning, practising and creating their own artworks in such a calm, friendly and supportive environment. There were plenty of smiles, creativity and wonderful moments of connection throughout the sessions.

A big thank you to Echo from Echo's Chinese Painting studio for sharing her knowledge, skills and passion with our community.

We are so happy to see how much everyone enjoyed the experience and are already looking forward to more creative and cultural learning opportunities in the future!

Over the past two weeks, our participants have been exploring the beautiful art of Chinese calligraphy with Echo Wu from Echo’s Chinese Painting Studio.

In our first session, we practiced the basic brush strokes, learning how each stroke is carefully formed and connected. In the second session, we began exploring the meaning behind Chinese characters, giving us a deeper appreciation of the language and culture behind this traditional art.

The sessions have created such a soft, calm and friendly atmosphere, where everyone can slow down, focus, enjoy the creativity and learn something new together. It has been wonderful to see participants sharing, practising and enjoying the peaceful experience.

A beautiful combination of culture, creativity, mindfulness and connection.

Last Thursday was such an amazing afternoon as we celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival and wrapped up our first 4 weeks of Vietnamese cultural learning and sharing!

Participants enjoyed lantern making and a beautiful lantern parade, followed by Vietnamese cultural dancing, group dancing and even some line dancing! There was so much laughter, energy and joy as everyone came together to celebrate.

A heartfelt thank you to Vietnamese Association in Hobsons Bay Inc for being part of Cultures in Colours and for sharing your wonderful culture, knowledge and traditions with our community.

And now, starting this Thursday, 3 September 2PM - 4PM, we will explore Chinese Calligraphy and Chinese Brush Painting for 5-week workshops.

Cultures in Colours Program – Vietnamese Traditional Dance Workshop

Participants explored the beautiful traditional costumes and cultural stories of Vietnam, learning how clothing and traditions have evolved through the years.

Everyone had the chance to try different traditional scarves and hats, including the iconic conical hats, before putting them into action through dance!

There was lots of laughter, movement and sharing as everyone danced together and enjoyed learning about Vietnamese culture.

Last Saturday was such a beautiful celebration of creativity and community at Walker Close Community Centre! 💛

Community members came along to enjoy and admire the amazing artworks created by our Art & Craft Corner participants — and it was wonderful to see some pieces finding new homes too.

Our Kids Workshop was also full of fun and smiles! Children and families enjoyed making paper flowers, colouring, creating cards, and designing their own DIY name badges to take home.

Thank you to everyone who came along, supported our community artists, joined the activities, and helped make the day so special.

It was a lovely reminder that art brings people together, creates connections, and brings joy to all ages. 💕

Cultures in Colours – Vietnamese Recipe Scrapbooking
What a beautiful and creative afternoon we had last week!

Participants worked in small groups to research Vietnamese dishes, then shared their findings and stories with everyone. It was wonderful to see everyone learning from each other and discovering the flavours and traditions behind Vietnamese cuisine, such as: Spring Roll, Bun Cha, Hoi An Chicken Rice, etc.

After that, we got creative and made our own recipe scrapbooks, featuring the Vietnamese recipes we explored together, along with some beautiful recipes and inspiration from Coles magazines.

A lovely session filled with learning, sharing, creativity and connection.
