Congrats, Isabelle! 🎉

Isabelle Burke is researching the link between sense of smell and dementia in the School of Psychology at Deakin University. Her research is deeply personal, inspired by her mother’s experience with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease.

🎉 Congratulations, Dr Madeleine Smith! 🧠👏

We're thrilled to celebrate CaRE member Dr Madeleine Smith, a post-doctoral fellow in the Department of Neuroscience, who has been awarded a prestigious Scientific Exchange Grant from the International Stroke Recovery and Rehabilitation Alliance (ISRRA)!

This grant will take her to Canada 🇨🇦, where she'll join the renowned lab of Professor Numa Dancause at Université de Montréal. There, she'll deepen her expertise in brain connectivity and plasticity post-stroke—vital work that supports her groundbreaking research into stem cell therapies for stroke recovery.

“I’m very excited to have this opportunity to learn and gain experience in an internationally recognised lab, which will broaden the scope of my neuroscience training,” says Dr Smith. “The grant will enable me to develop cutting-edge expertise, forge international connections, and contribute to advancing stroke recovery research both at Monash University and globally.”

We’re proud to celebrate Dr Smith as she continues to grow into a global leader in stroke research. 🌍💡

🎉 Huge congratulations to CaRE committee member A/Prof Narelle Cox! 🎉

Together with Prof Anne Holland, Professor of Physiotherapy and Head of Respiratory Research at Alfred Health and Monash University, Narelle has co-developed an innovative remote rehabilitation program that blends technology, community support, and best-practice exercise programs to improve access to care for people living with chronic respiratory conditions — no matter where they live. 🏡💻💪

Their ground-breaking research, "Tele-rehabilitation for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease," was just featured in the NHMRC’s ‘10 of the Best’ (16th edition) — a national publication that showcases some of Australia’s most impactful health and medical research. 🇦🇺📘

This program is now referenced in global treatment guidelines for treating people with chronic respiratory conditions, and is being embedded in widespread practice. 🌍✅

👏 Congratulations to Prof Holland and our very own A/Prof Cox on this incredible recognition and contribution to improving health care for all! 💙
